The topic i have chosen for my cba is the right to religion in lesser developed contries.WHY HAVE I CHOSEN THIS TOPIC I have chosen this topic as religion has been a big part in my life. I was raised in a chatholic house and i have several family relations that are a part of church my great uncle being a preist and more. I wished to refind my intrest in religion during this project as to be more connected to it aswell as my intrest in the way religion is accesed in developing countries

The Right to Religion

What i hoped to achieve

- I hoped to learn about religion in different part of the world along with the importance of religion to different people - I hoped to learn more about religion from the precpective of someone who has worked with religion for decades not only in Romania but other places.- I personaly hoped to regain my focus on religion as in recent times i have grew further away from it. Religion is big part of my family and i would like to remind myself of how fortunate I am to be in this position along with the resources i have.

Human Rights

- Human rights are the right we have simply because we are human and exist. They can be put in categories like social, economic, religious, environmental and more. Here are some examples of human rights-The right to life and liberty-Right to freedom from slavery and torture-Right to freedom of opinion- Right to work and education- Right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion-Without the human rights there would be no sustainable peace, no stability, no protection from harm and no equalityThere have been violations of human right like the extremes eg Genocide and Slavery or the not so extreme but still important eg abuse, discrimination and homelessness

Learning intetions

i conducted the interview on whatsapp and the answers are through voice messages

in order to achieve what i had hoped to do I conducted an interview with a relitive who has done work in kenya

My action

i translated the information from romanian into english

i collected the data neccesary from sites he had mentioned

I questioned him on the topic of religion and his involvment in kneya

i messaged him privatly on whatsapp about the interviw

how I contributed to this action

Eugen Blaj

His name is Eugen Blaj. He is a family relative who has taken part in many religious activities over the many years of work. One example is that he was a missionary in Kenya for 17 years, from 1999 to 2016.
He has his own Facebook account were he regularly posts about religion, cases of people in need who he is associated with, as well as a missionary for kids in Romania which he works with alongside Matilda Stefan Andrici.

His life

What inspired him to become a missionary and work in the religious industry is his passion for religion along with his reading and understanding of religious texts.
He had had contacts with other missionaries which inspired him. He had said that God drove his desire to become a missionary until he achieved his goal.
His aims stayed mostly the same through out his time as a missionary. His main aims was to communicate and spread faith to others and to help people in difficult situations including health and education.
He beleivs that everyone should have the right to practise religion and choose which religion they want to be apart of.

Samburu tribe

His work in Kenya

He worked in the Roman catholic diocese of Marsabit that is located in nothern Kenya which crosses over the Chalbi desert. (a diocese is a district under the pastoral care of a bishop).

He works mostly with nomadic tribes like Samburu, Turkana, Gabra amongst many others.

He works with wide range of people from young, elderly, teachers, parents etc...

His work in Kenya

He had helped people through difficult situations by communicating and giving as much aid as possible, he had helped people to generate income by creating something out of scrap and other materials to sell in the cities and providing educational facilities and equipment to all people.

In the parish everyone sings perfectly in unison with instruments made out of scrap materials

I learnt about the difference in lifestyle between the developing area of Kenya and the developed are of Ireland

The aid that religion can give

What I have learnt about this topic

- Hearing and seeing the difference in lifestyle really reminds me to be grateful and the things i have. I learnt about the lifestyle in Kenya which is sad yet fascinating to see as they all seem so happy in the church, singing and playing instruments. -I rarely see people that happy in Ireland even though we have way more than them. the difference in culture is also visible as in church here we don't all sing upbeat religious song and dance instead we have more somber and slow songs

While hearing the interview I has pleasantly surprised by the aid that religion and the church can bring. Eugen talks about how they helped people get jobs, education and medical attention which I hadn't thought about.
Many people go to priests to gain advice in hard times, to seek a level of comfort that someone else may not be able to bring or simply to talk about their realationship with religion

The skills i have developed

I improved my IT skills in preparing and editing this powerpoint.- I have never really been an IT person so i found it tricky at firs but i am now slowly getting more used to editing and presenting information online

IT Skills

I continued developing my research skills by looking into some Human right facts and also in researching about the places in Kenya mentioned.-I also had to research and gather information of Eugen off of his social media pages

Reasearch skills

I have developed my skill in communication not only in English but also in Romanian.- I have contacted and communicated with Eugen in Romanian.- I don't often write in Romanian which at first i found challenging but as time went on i got better.- This skill is really important for me as i do sometimes have problems communicating in 2 languages.

Communication/ Language skills

How my oppinons have been challenged/changed/confirmed

My opinions on religion have changed in a more positive way while doing this project. I realised that religion is and can be a huge help to many people and it isn't just centred around god / the priest yet more so focused on helping others through the beliefs of god

My attitude on religion has also been challenged as I used to see

church as a chore and not a privilege where as this proves that religion is a way to help others and yourself

REFLECTION

I really enjoyed doing this project. It was surprisingly fun interviewing him and learning more about religion. This project played a part in my process in rediscovering my passion for religion. It made me see religion in a better light and I will continue to become more involved with religion as I am not yet at the end of my journey.
While doing this project I had developed many skills including communication and researching one of the skills I wish I would have been able to develop was interviewing in person. This was sadly not possible but if I were to do it again I would like to maybe do it on camera( this was also not possible due to phone issues) or in person.
In the future i would hope to donate to religious causes or help in a religious or educational way in developing countries as I am sure it would be needed
