Atmospheric Pollutants

Greenhouse Effect

The Early Atmosphere

1. Electromagnetic radiation at most wavelengths pass through ther Earth's atmosphere.2. The Earth Absorbs most of the radiation & warms up 3. earth radiates energy as infared 4. Some of it goes into space 5. Some is absorbed by greenhouse gases 6. The lower atmosphere warms up

Oceans formed because the Earth cooled & water vapour condensed Carbon dioxide decreased because oceans formed & it dissolved Plant & algae appear (oxygen increases due to photosynthesis) Carbon dioxide decreases due to photosynthesis using it as a reactant Nitrogen has increased because bacteria appears & produces it.

Hydrocarbons:- Can be found in petrol & diseal Coal: - Generate electricity in Power stations carbon Monoxide: - Toxic. - No colour - No smell

Pollutant Gases:- Nitrogen oxides - Sulfer dioxide - Water Vapour.
