Earth's Movements
ROTATION
- Earth's rotation is the rotation of planet Earth around its own axis in an anticlockwise direction. Earth rotates once in 24 hours.
- It causes day and night.
REVOLUTION
- The revolution movement of the Earth is the orbit that it does around the Sun.
- It takes the Earth 365 days (and around 6 h) to make one complete revolution around the Sun .
- It causes the seasons: Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring.

Imaginary Lines
- PARALELLS are circular horizontal lines. Paralell 0º is the EQUATOR and it divides the Earth into the Northern and the Southern Hemisphere. Paralells measure LATITUDE.
- MERIDIANS are semicircular vertical lines from the North Pole to the South Pole. They are measured in degrees East and West. Meridian 0º is the GREENWICH Meridian. Meridians measure LONGITUDE.

- CRUST: It is the thin outer layer of the Earth, where we live. It is formed by the oceanic crust and the continental crust and its thickness varies from 5 to 70 km.
- MANTLE: It is made of melted iron, minerals and other semi-solid rocks.
- CORE: The core is made of two layers: the inner and outer core. When the Earth formed 4.5 billion years ago, the heavy substances sunk to the middle and these formed the inner core.

Spheres on the Earth.
The spheres are the four subsystems that make up the planet Earth. They are called spheres because they are round, just like the Earth. The four spheres are the GEOSPHERE (all the rock on Earth), HYDROSPHERE (all the water on Earth), ATMOSPHERE(all the gases surrounding Earth), and BIOSPHERE (all the living things on Earth).
