What are endangered animals?
Endangered animals are animal species that are in risk of being extinct in the near future. This is due to massive decreases in the species population due to things mostly caused by us humans.
Why are species becoming endangered?
There are many reasons why animals are becoming endangered. Here are some of them:
- Habitat loss (the main reason)
- Climate change
- Global warming
- Deforestation
- Pollution
What species are endangered?
The top 5 most endangered animals are:
- Javan rhinos (the population in the wild is around 75 individuals which can only be found on the island of Java)
- Amur leopard (one of the rarest big cats and have been endangered since 1966)
- Sunda island tiger or sumatran tiger (in risk of extinction due to human population increase)
- Mountain gorillas (over 50,000 people live in the mountain gorillas habitat which poses a huge threat to their existence
- Tapanuli Orangutans (they live in the restricted tropical areas of the Batang forest
What can we do to help?
There are many things we can do to help however the ones listed are simple ways in which we can help: Reduce, reuse, recycle. Recycling and reducing your waste helps the planet and everyone that lives on it Dont purchase items like ivory, real tortoise shell and coral. These items lead to population problems for endangered species Grow native plants. Native plants are a food source for many local species.
