COMMONLIT
I LOVE COMMONLIT BECAUSE IT'S SO GROOVY!
CommonLit is a free digital tool that is aimed at students in 5th grade through 12th grade. This resource offers a wide range of literary texts, tests, and guiding questions within each text. These readings are versatile as they include nonfiction documents, historical texts, poems, news articles, etc. When working through assigned reading, students are able to enhance their reading experience in a variety of ways that promote literacy. Students have the option to have the text read aloud to them so that they can hear it. In addition, they can also use the dictionary, highlight + annotate, and translate words. Through this, the individual needs of each student are addressed.

Whooo's Reading
Whooo's Reading is a resource that helps students develop higher-order thinking about texts they read. This is a K-8 resource that aligns with Common Core Ed. standards. Students read a variety of texts and earn wisdom coins that are redeemable at the Owl Store for upgrading their owls. Furthermore, there is a classroom feed where students can engage with peers about the reading texts (similar to a discussion board). Instead of answering generic multiple-choice questions, students are encouraged to critically think by responding to open-ended questions about the readings. In doing so, they are developing reading comprehension and writing skills. Teachers have options to create personalized questions or use preloaded prompts. When reviewing their students’ reading responses, teachers can provide qualitative and quantitative feedback to students.
