Angel has a kind, sweet, and motherly personality. In the book Angel of Greenwood she is known for taking care of others and being a goody two shoes church girl. The song Count on Me by Bruno Mars is a song that represents her well. In the book, Angel took care of Mrs. Nichelle’s baby when she needed some privacy. Angel rocked Michael on our neighbors front step for what felt like a while. She glanced at her tickling watch to see an hour and passed angels first mind told her to check on Miss Nichelle, but Michael had finally dozed off on her upper shoulder. She decided to let him sleep but then a second hour past he was snoring, blowing tiny spit bubbles while he slept. Angel didn’t dare put him in his crib; he surely wake up ragging (Randi Pink 22) This shows that Angel is willing to give up her time and energy for others in need. She also gave up her free time to let Michael sleep on her shoulder for another hour. That’s why I choose the song Count on me because it shows that

Isaiah changes when he distances himself from Muggy. The song Something's Got a Hold on Me by Etta James also relates to how Isaiah has changed. His friendship with Muggy was the only thing he had going for him because she really had no other friends. “His friendship was his shield. Armor from the embarrassment and pain inflicted by his best friend” (Randi Pink 94). He feels like he owes Muggy the world because Muggys family has done so much for Isaiah’s. He is also his friend so he doesn’t get bullied by him. Isaiah’s poems also reflect what he truly thinks about Muggy. “ I hate he’s my shield, His filthy, rotting guts, He’s cruel but he’s my shield, he’s built me up from the bottom up. I’ll use him, I swear, and leave him for when I’m good enough. I’ll be, one day. Shieldless, Muggyless, one day. A proud poet.”(Randi Pink 100-101). One of the lyrics in the song Something's Got a Hold on Me says I've got a feeling, I feel so strange. Everything about me seems to have changed Step by step, I got a brand new walk. I even sound sweeter when I talk. Everything has changed ever since Muggy saw the poem and now Isaiah is sort of free from Muggy. After that Isaiah moves on and focuses on Angel as the book goes on.
All by myself
Now that Isaiah is thinking about Angel he understands her. The song All by myself by Celine Dion describes what Isaiah is feeling perfectly. Isaiah is losing sleep because he’s thinking about missing Angel. He also takes what Angel has to say to heart instead of ignoring her. “Exhausted, Isaiah hadn’t had a full night's sleep in days. Desperate to connect with Angel on another level, he'd lost her literature. Reading her recommended books, one after the other, beginning to understand the crux of her argument against Du Bois.” (Randi Pink 207) not only is he taking her advice, but he’s also starting to catch feelings for her. Thinking about their kiss. “Thinking of her, his mind drifted to their kisses. He chuckled a bit at the untidiness of it. Angel had no idea what she was doing, but threw herself into it.” (Randi Pink 208) He doesn’t want to be alone anymore and wants Angel and that’s how my song describes him. The lyrics says “All by myself Don't wanna be All by myself Anymore Hard to be sure Sometimes I feel so insecure And loves so distant and obscure Remains the cure.” Angel made Isaiah less insecure and is making him understand stuff better. He is more open with his feelings. And as the book goes on they become closer.
