What do I need to do?

start

You will begin working on your explanatory essay or you may choose to create a PowerPoint presentation. Remember, an explanatory essay, otherwise known as an informative essay, is when you present facts and details in a way that allows readers to understand a topic. Assignment Write an explanatory essay or create a PowerPoint presentation in which you respond to the following prompt: How can animals and people help one another? First draft is due Monday, December 18th. Final draft is due Monday, January 8th. In this unit, you read about different relationships between animals and people. In some cases, animals revealed a new way of looking at the world. In others, people and animals educated each other. Use evidence from the selections in this unit to elaborate on your explanation. Explain your ideas thoughtfully, and use transitions to make connections among them. Make sure that you use a formal style, and organize your essay in a logical way so that it is easy for readers to follow.

Writing a Thesis A thesis is a short statement, usually one sentence, that summarizes the main point of an essay.

Most of the time, the thesis will be the last sentence of the introductory paragraph. The thesis drives the essay because it is developed, supported, and explained throughout the text by examples and evidence.

Thesis Example Review the prompt: How can animals and people help one another?

Your essay or PowerPoint would then explain how animals and people make each other healthier and happier by providing evidence from the texts you read and connecting to real-world examples

Your thesis might be something like: Animals and people help one another by making each other healthier and happier.
