There are no clear losers or winners and no right or wrong decisions. The game just shows that when a technical decision is made, repercussions in terms of social justice is felt to groups of people who get affected and to those who make the decisions. It is in this regard, that you either go up the ladder (when good decisions are made) or go down the snake ( when negative impacts of decisions are felt).

Snakes and Ladders: Social Justice Edition

Through the game of snakes and ladders, players learn about incorporation of social justice in different infrastructure-related projects and the technical decisions that play a role.

  • Each player puts their counter on the space that says 'start here'.
  • Take it in turns to roll the dice. Move your counter forward the number of spaces shown on the dice.
  • If your counter lands at the bottom of a ladder, you can move up to the top of the ladder.
  • Click on 'SPECIAL TILES' when you land on them for a message on social justice!
  • If your counter lands on the head of a snake, you must slide down to the bottom of the snake
