Ziply Whole Home WiFi Glossary

START

WiFi uses radio frequencies to send signals wirelessly to connect computers, tablets, smartphones, and other devices to the internet.

WiFi

Your home WiFi network will impact your internet speed. The more devices on your home WiFi network using the internet at the same time, the more bandwidth you will need.

next

A WiFi dead zone is an area where there is little to no WiFi signal.

Dead Zone

Dead zones can be caused by a variety of things blocking the WiFi signal such as brick, water, metal, mirrors, or home appliances.

next

A router is a device that connects to the internet to communicate between the internet and the devices in the home.

Router

Ziply Fiber equipment includes a combined modem and wireless router that connects smart devices like computers, tablets, watches, and smartphones to the internet.

next

A mesh extender extends WiFi signal range by repeating the WiFi signal of the wireless router to reduce dead zones and cover more ground.

Mesh Extender

Unlike a traditional router setup, a mesh extender allows you to seamlessly and automatically connect to the nearest connection point.

next

The Ziply Gateway is the Ziply router otherwise known as the Home Networking Service. It is required for customers to sign up for Whole Home WiFi.

Ziply Gateway

After the assessment, the Ziply technician will install a Ziply Gateway and up to three mesh extenders to provide customers with the best WiFi coverage for their location, their family, and all of their devices.

next

Dual band is a feature allowing a device to function in two different frequency bands.

Dual Band

Dual band routers have the ability to connect to both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands at the same time, which can provide a more stable wireless connection.

next

5 GHz frequencies provide faster speeds at a shorter range.

5 GHz

Your choice of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz will depend on where and how you use your WiFi connection most.

next

A 2.4 GHz connection travels farther at lower speeds.

2.4 GHz

Your choice of 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz will depend on where and how you use your WiFi connection most.
