Pros: zoos

“Zoos do a lot for conservation. There are dedicated species survival programs which have helped species come out from the brink of extinction, good examples of that being the black-footed ferrets, the red wolves, the Przewalski’s wild horse, and the California condors,” (wildlifewelfare.org).

pros: zoos

Zoos have saved a good amount of life-threatened species by capturing them and having them breed in order to save their species.

“There are dedicated species survival programs which have helped species come out from the brink of extinction, good examples of that being the black-footed ferrets, the red wolves, the Przewalski’s wild horse, and the California condors,” (wildlifewelfare.org).

Zoos are saving endangered species and keeping them around to exist longer than they would in the wild.

Zoos keep up with their habitats for the animals and help the animals feel more comfortable in the habitats so they can feel a little more at home.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums helped with orangutans with their habitat loss being threatened.

“Orangutans are threatened by habitat loss due to unsustainably grown palm oil. The AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction orangutan program was launched in 2018 to focus on these threats to assist in the recovery of the species,” (aza.org).

The ecosystems are getting repaired slowly but surely and are helping animals become more comfortable in habitats again.

People can walk around, get exercise, and look at their favorite animals in day at the zoo.

“A day at a zoo, aquarium, or museum is a great family day. They can walk around and look at cool stuff all day and then maybe you can enjoy a packed lunch together by a nice park bench or cozy spot,” (blog.peachjar.com).

Spending a day at the zoo with friends and family helps promote exercise and is a fun activity for the whole family.

In conclusion, zoos can be beneficial for many reasons. Three of the reasons include but are not limited to protecting endangered species, repairing ecosystems, and it is an activity that the whole family can enjoy. Everyone should take the time to become educated on why zoos are beneficial and what is being done for wildlife species.

cons: wildlife sanctuaries / zoos

cons: WIldlife sanctuaries / zoos

The animals are in cages in which they feel like they are being trapped, which they are not used to because they are used to being able to explore wildlife.

Some animals do poorly when living in captivity and not their actual habitat.

For example, Orcas could live up to 100 years when they live in their actual habitat but when they are being held captive the average years, they live is less than 30 years.

With animals living in unnatural conditions could cause animals to have mental illnesses.

Also, with animals living in poor living conditions which has caused many animals to develop serious mental illnesses.

As an example, for animals' behavior changing, we have elephants who are animals that migrate and by them being restricted from being able to do so they become more aggressive.

Due to animals living in zoos they are less likely to breed because of the unnatural living conditions of zoos.

So because of that their populations are decreasing instead of their populations increasing in the long run.

For example, through the 1990s just 30% of the Giant Pandas that was captive could reproduce successfully. But when the cubs were born more than 60% of them would die while still being an infant.

So, in conclusion, I hope you all actually listened to what we’ve presented to y’all and learned something new. You know learning about animals being captive in zoos, mental problems and animal behavior, and breeding in zoos. So, now who thinks its right to have animals in zoos/wildlife and who thinks it's wrong?

Thank you!
