A civilization is a group of people in one area with shared chracteristics. Some examples of ancient civilizations are Mesopotamia & Egypt. Click on each civilization to learn more. We will learn about these later this year.

Government is a system of rules and people who make and enforce them. Government provides law and order. Some examples of different types of governments are a democracy, monarchy, theocracy, and dictatorship. Click on each government example to learn more.

Religion

Religion is what people believe about a higher power (such as God). Religion provides a community and sense of belonging for many. Three of the major world religions are Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism. Click on each religion to learn more.

Social Structure

Technology

Technology is the use of scientific knowledge to invent a device or tool. Technology makes life easier and improves our way of living. For example, farming was a lot easier after the invention of the plow, leading to population growth and the growth of civilizations and cities.

Language & Writing

Language is a way people communicate and share information. It includes speaking, writing, and gestures/body movements. It is also important for documenting important information like deeds, marriage, death, and more. Some examples of modern languages are French spoken in France, Mandarin spoken in China, and Portugeuse spoken in Portugal and Brazil.
