The need for 24/7 stafffing in healthcare facilities necessitates nurses and other healthcare professionals to work unconventional schedules, such as the night shift. Working at night and sleeping during the day runs counter to our bodies' natural circadian rhythm, and can result in a number of negative mental, emotional and physiological effects. Working a night shift requires a commitment to healthy coping strategies in order to reduce and avoid some of these harmful effects.
