PROBLEM

Many people struggle with Executive Functioning

Executive Functioning (EF) refers to the extent to which one practices executive skills. These skills include working memory, planning, organization, task initiation, emotional control, inhibition, and self-monitoring. We all use these skills in our day to day lives, and we all struggle with them from time to time. Some people have notable difficulties with EF, sometimes referred to as Executive Dysfunction. Certain neurodivergencies such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder can be linked to difficulties with EF. Developing EF is a growing focus in education, as these skills are essential for success at school, the workplace, and in interpersonal relationships. There are many tools available that are specifically designed to support EF. However, for those who need EF support, it takes a lot of EF to familiarize oneself with these tools, remember what they are, how and in what contexts they work, and where to access them when in need of support. Many existing tools to support EF are used ineffectively or not at all for their intended purpose of helping those who need it most.

solution

This extension supports EF throughout users' browser experiences. The Executive toolbar can be downloaded in multiple browsers' Web or Add-ons Stores, and activated with a quick click of the icon. Once activated, Executive appears as a user friendly toolbar with visual supports to easily access a diverse breadth of EF tools anywhere online. With an easy click, users can access, create, and/or add a variety of tools and supports for EF. These include calendar entries, reminders, to do list items, digital sticky notes, customizable timers, limits for distracting websites, a temperature check with prompts and resources for self-regulation, a page simplifer, a screen masking tool, and digital highlighters. The visual reminder of the availability of supports on the toolbar empowers users who require them to access and utilize them. Tools will sync to aligning Google platforms to ensure consistency and follow through with lasting benefits across devices.

WHY USERS WILL WANT TO USE

it's compatible

It's adaptAble

It's easy

Many users have already established regular use of Google tools like Calendar, Keep, and Docs to support Executive Functioning. Executive will extend these supports by making them accessible in one click, and by allowing users to create and edit entries in a pop up, rather than switching to a new site. Additionally, other settings and tools activated within Executive can be saved so that they will be applied to all websites.

The tools that Executive facilitates access to are adaptable to diverse needs and contexts. There are tools to support every area of Executive Function or skill, and users can choose to utilize some, all, or none of the supports according to their needs. This extension will work within any site, so users can access supports during a wide breadth of tasks. Whether users are researching, writing, creating, or watching a video, Executive is available.

The user experience will be quick and simple: add the Executive extension from the Chrome web store and click to activate it within the browser. Once activated, a toolbar will appear at the top of the browser with icons to represent each available tool. This constant visual reminder will move through users' browsing experiences with them, empowering them to access available tools without delay when needed.

Reps will be present at teachers' conferences to demo the extensions, discuss its benefits, help teachers sign up for their free accounts, and sell subscriptions to classes, schools, and districts. Additionally, there will be a website developed for Executive with free professional development resources such as live and recorded webinars, tutorials, and implementation ideas.

The extension will be promoted through targeted ads on Instagram and TikTok, where users are most likely to be off task and in need of a reminder of the necessity of EF supports. Targeted ads will also be added to the Google Chrome Web Store's recommended for you section.

Teachers will have permanent access to free accounts so that they can easily trial the tool themselves and with students to see the benefits. Everyone else will get a free one-month trial of full access. After the trial is completed, users will have the option to upgrade to a paid subscription or to use the free version of the extension, limited to three tools on the toolbar.
