My wartburg education will teach me how to accurately research and learn about biology, which will help me figure out how to research the problem of oceanic deterioration. My future classes will teach me how to become a biologist but also a researcher so that I do not need to rely on the research of others to prove my point. My classes also will teach me to work hard and be willing to give up some fun things to be able to get the work done that I need to get done. Something I might not expect to learn in my future classes will definitely be patience. Even now, I am facing frustrations with a few things whether it be a professor who I do not really get along with, or just work load. To ease the workload, I need to learn to accept help and also search for it but I also need to learn that I will not always get along with my professors and if I want to pass the class, I just need to accept it and maybe even search for help elsewhere.
For my topic I choose Marine Ecosystem Deterioration. Growing up, I have always loved the ocean and it’s unique marine life that all play a part of an ecosystem we as humans can’t experience firsthand. When I was researching topics for this class, I found that I was surprised when “marine ecosystem deterioration” came across my search results. But then, the more I thought about it, since we live in Iowa and are not necessarily near any coral reefs, or even oceans for that matter, it makes sense that this type of issue isn’t really on any of our local news sources. Because of that fact, I especially want to being light to this issue so I can make at least our class aware of this pressing issue and hopefully represent how a problem possibly thousands of miles away could affect us here in Waverly Iowa. I am especially passionate about this topic because for so long the ocean was used as earth’s dumping ground and just now we are beginning to realize the horrible side effects the earth, especially the ocean, is feeling because of human abuse. The impact that could be possibly be made with this presentation could simply start at someone’s interest being sparked to google more information about this problem. That then could lead to them donating to a charity regarding Marine Ecosystem Deterioration and then in turn that charity could put the money donated towards helping fix the ecosystem.
