Explanation of the problem

Valledupar is a city that stands out for its tourist attractions, landscape and the service of its people. But, for a few years now, a health and environmental emergency has been occurring, which has brought with it a constant accumulation of garbage due to the poor management of solid waste, which affects the health conditions of its inhabitants.

Impact at the Social Level

In Valledupar, the problem of solid waste dumps has become a very common situation where between July, August and September 2021, more were collected. of 5,738 tons of all types of waste on urban roads. The figures are progressive, like the number of critical points located in the five communes of the city.

Impact at the Social Level

As a consequence of these dumps, bad odors, dead animals, pruning of trees, debris and other elements that damage the Environment have occurred.

Impact at the Level of Health

• Diarrhea: caused by bacteria such as E. coli and Salmonella that are found in garbage and contaminate water and food. Dengue: transmitted by mosquitoes that breed in puddles of stagnant water that form in accumulated garbage.

Impact at the Level of Health

Respiratory infections: caused by fungi and bacteria found in dust and toxic gases released from decomposing garbage.

• Viral hepatitis:

• Leptospirosis:

Current state of the situation

It is the responsibility and obligation of the State Organizations (Municipal Mayor's Office of Valledupar and the Government of Cesar) to organize and implement strategies that contribute to completely eliminating the existing garbage cans in the streets, providing them with adequate treatment and with this it is possible to have a better quality of life and environment in general. Therefore; It is necessary to carry out awareness campaigns to provide adequate management of solid waste, a task that to date has not been achieved by the responsible institutions. Furthermore, the participation of the community in general is required to end this problem through responsible and sustained actions over time.
