Why doesn't Audrey speak out?
Audrey
- Audrey is very isolated because of Henry’s controlling and coercive behaviour. She does not know if and what support is available to her.
- Audrey doesn’t recognise that Henry’s behaviour is abusive. She has not heard of coercive and controlling behaviour and does not know that it is a crime. She believes, therefore, that she would not be taken seriously.

Why doesn't Audrey speak out?
Audrey
- Audrey has been put down by Henry so much over the years, her self-esteem is very low and she believes that she could not cope without him.
- As Henry makes all of the important decisions and controls the finances, she feels dependent on him and would not know how to deal with these things on her own.
- Audrey feels that it is her duty to make her marriage work and wants to avoid the stigma and shame of going through a divorce.
