TASTER, SUPER TASTER OR NON-TASTER?
Chapter 1 Applied Genetics Activity
Traits that you can't see!
A variety of human traits are passed from one generation to another from parent to child. In this investigation you will study the TASTER TRAIT. The taster trait is an example of a trait which is dominant over the recessive non-taster trait. To make it easier, we often assign letters to denote the different alleles of a given gene. We use capital letter for the dominant and the lowercase for the recessive: Taster (T) Non-Taster (t).
When learning about genetics and heredity, most of the time we will learn about genetic traits that are easily observable such as eye, skin or hair color, presence (or absence) of frecckles, and whether a person is right- or left-handed.But do you know that your DNA can also affect the way that you taste food?
