What the law tells us?
This Act places a legal duty on employers to ensure, so far as reasonably practicable:- The health, safety and welfare of employees - Ensure that employees and others are kept safe.
The Health and Saftey at Work Act is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britian.
Why was the Act introduced?- Workers were being exposed to dangerous working conditions in factories/ mines. So the Health and Safety Act 1974 was bought into the Uk law to prevent work- related accidents, deaths and illnessess.
How will the Health and Safety Act affect our practice?
The employer in the school must take reasonable steps to ensure that staff and pupils are not exposed to risk to their or anyone else's health and safety. This applies to activities on or off school premises.
