English food

An English pub is a good place to have lunch and a drink. You can get hot or cold food, and it's not expensive. Other places to have lunch are snack shops and cafes. There are also places with food and drink in the malls.

You can go to a very comfortable and expensive restaurant, or for cheaper food, look for a pizzeria, or English fish and chips. And there are many Indian restaurants in England where the food is usually cheap and good.

The English like 'afternoon tea'. With your cup of tea you get sandwiches and cakes.

Clothing & Shopping

London is the place of fashion in England. Mary Quant made the first miniskirt here in the 1960s. She soon became famous all over the world. Later, in the 1970s, Vivienne Westwood opened her Seditionaries store on King's Road in Chelsea, and fashion was born.

London Fashion Week

Now, in February and September each year, London Fashion Week is celebrated. People from many countries come and see clothes of Paul Smith, Bruce Oldfield, Katharine Hamnett and others. You can also go to the shops on Sloane Street, New Bond Street and Old Bond Street for trendy clothes.

But don't forget about the small shops. Here you can often find something different or more interesting. Most museums and galleries also have gift shops.

You can find many of the other big stores in out-of-town malls, cities and towns across the country. For clothing, go to Marks and Spencer, Top Shop, River Island and Monsoon. Waterstones and Borders have books, and HMV and Virgin have CDs and DVDs
