In 1621 the first Thanksgiving was celebrated in Plymouth, Massachusetts as a result of a good haverst.The Pilgrims celebrated this with the Wampanoags, a tribe of Native Americans who helped them get through winter by giving them food in exchange for an alliance and protection against one of their rival tribes.
