Editor’s Letter by Viviana María Fallas Gabuardi
Is creative writing a difficult process? Writing is like a journey. Sometimes, it is difficult to start, to continue, or to finish. In other cases, it is hard to find our inner feelings and write them down. Maybe, readers do not understand our ideas, and that makes us feel frustrated. However, writing makes us free; it helps us to discover emotions we never thought about before. Writing is more than just putting into words what is in our minds. It not only gives us the opportunity to express ourselves; it is the door that allows us to transmit all our essence. Our deepest feelings, thoughts, and desires are truly exposed, leaving the reader’s imagination to do its work. All of us are afraid of the beginning, but once we let all our creativity do its magic, words start to dance to be transformed into something beautiful and full of meaning. If you do not believe so, read the heart-touching and incredible pieces of art you have written. Dear students, I want to thank you for everything I learned from your adventurous stories, lovely and heartbreaking poems, and high-quality interviews and articles. I really enjoyed reading those pieces of work full of hidden messages. I want you to know that you have a tremendous potential to become excellent writers. What you have to do is just to go that extra mile that will make you stand out. I am sure everybody will enjoy your pieces of art, your creative magazines.Congratulations on your hard work. Thank you again for teaching me valuable life lessons. You are a quite loving group. Keep your energy, friendship, and attitude. With love, Prof. Viviana María

CHILDREN'S World
Children are cared, loved, and protected. They are daring, experimenting, and changing. They are intelligent, adorable, and adventurous. They are family, the present and the future. Children are so innocent surrounded by a world plenty of risk They are a world of dreams They are wonderful even a candy can wake up a smile in their face However, many of them, their hearts seem anguish-filled. Children are so playful They play as much as they can They also never get satisfied They always want something new Children are the present the future Children’s heart and mind shouldn’t be anguish-filled

LIFE'S CYCLE Life comes up splendid as sun in the morning. It comes getting strong and powerful. Growing up too fast. Youth pass quick as closing and opening our eyes; Without giving us time to enjoy what we create. Wilting fast as the leaf of a flower; Taking us to the bittersweet death. “Life is your take it, enjoy it, and live it every single second.By Johel

Long Lost Memories
It is a sunny and crowded day in the port city of Velia, a gentle breeze comes from the ocean and the smell of salt and fish invades the town. Hundreds of people are going in and out of the city storage to save or retrieve their belongings and even more people in the central market bidding in the auctions for precious items or buying food from street vendors. Wagons pulled by horses are a common sight in the city where a little child was running avoiding all the people and horses with a medium-sized bag in his arms, a much-known kid that is quite the character in Velia. “Jamey! –a villager yelled to the kid - Where are you going now?” “I have to deliver the fish bait to Crio, Ms. Karon! I’m running late” “Be careful not to hurt yourself like last week! Remember what happened with the staircase.” “I’ll sure be careful, thank you, Milady!” The sound of the kid’s steps was easily overshadowed by the stomping of the horses and the crowd. Having reached the port, the kid looked for Crio, the best fisher in the city. While looking for Crio, the boy entered the storage area belonging to the port, making his way among the crowd he spotted the one in charge of the storage, a good villager that has taken care of Jamey in the past. “Ernill!... Ernill!!.... Erniiiill!!”
06
Jamey’s voice could not be heard throughout the hundreds of other voices addressing Ernill, but he won’t give up easily, as that is his determination to complete the task that was entrusted to him. The kid rushed out of the storage area to look for the fisher, the bait needs to be delivered because it’s his work. A guard spotted Jamey and called him, not wasting a single second, the little kid got to him, and having a quick glance at the bag and seeing the fish bait the guard knew who the kid was looking for. “Crio is on the pier, almost ready to set sail. Go quickly”
07
The kid headed to the pier and saw Crio in the distance on the deck of one of the ships, but because of the rush, he could not pay attention to the ships in the port until now. Within the port, usually full of fishing boats and medium-sized sailboats with a single mast, was a structure way bigger than the others, an uncommon sight that gets the attention of many people. A dark brown, three-masted ship with white sails embellished in its borders with blue and golden details and a golden eagle symbol in the center of the middle and front sails, nine cannons on each side of the ship, and another golden eagle in front of the ship serving as its figurehead. Seeing Crio in a medium sailboat next to the massive ship, the boy ran to the side of the boat. “Mr. Crio! I’m here!” Jamey was calling the fisher as loud as he could to overcome the sound of the crew up in the ship. Finally getting the attention of Crio. “Come aboard kid!” Jamey went up the sailboat admiring his surroundings, but the crew was not carrying supplies into the ship, instead, they were taking them out of it.
08
“Here you have Mr. Crio, a bag of fish bait from Finto farm” “Thank you kid, and here’s your payment” “By the way, Sir, is it not supposed to supply the ship? Why are you taking all these things out of it?” “Because we are not using this ship this time, we will use the big one right there” “Are you serious, Sir!? Isn’t this one of the ships from tales?” “It is indeed, that ship is called a Carrack, it comes from Calpheon, meant for bigger travels into the ocean. Do you see the cannons on its sides? A lot of terrible creatures are prowling in the great ocean beyond the Blue Eye Island, and we need a way to defend ourselves since we will go to the land beyond that ocean”. “You mean Haso? Can I go with you, Sir? I really want to go with you!” “I just said there are horrors in the ocean, and yet you want to come with me? Either you have guts, kid or just didn’t listen to what I just said. Anyways you can’t come. Ernill and that old dwarf Tranan still need your help, be a good boy while I’m out.” “Ok Sir…” –said Jamey lowering his head- “Don’t be sad. Here, before it gets out of my head, can you deliver this letter to Tachro? He’s in the forest outside the city, to the east; he might be training Krameas right now.” “Leave it to me, Sir!”
09
Leaving the ship in a rush, Jamey headed straight to the forest right outside the city. “What a good boy he is.” –said Crio proudly to himself- Avoiding again the sea of people and horses, Jamey got out of the city and went to the east, where a peaceful forest lies. Usually used for soldier trainees and adventurers for training; full of fruit trees it was quite easy to find something to eat yet, the forest was never touched for commercial purposes since it became part of the small city’s customs to protect the forest. As Jamey was getting close to the training area in the forest, the sound of wood clashing could be heard, louder with each step the boy took. . Moving some bushes, the boy finally saw the commander Tachros and its new recruit and adventurer Krameas in intensive training.
10
“You might be exceptional with magic, but you still lack swordsmanship” “That’s why I decided to become your apprentice!” As Krameas finished his sentence, he jumped into Tachros with the wooden sword used for training, and decided to land a strike on his teacher from above. Tachros didn’t even move a bit and blocked the attack with his own wooden sword using just one hand, swiftly taking a turn and positioning himself behind Krameas and landing a strike right into the left side of Krameas’ body in the ribs before he could even react. The strike was strong enough to disable the trainee from fighting anymore; making him lay on the ground due to the pain. “That will be all for today, you have been improving a lot, yet you aren’t good enough. The path of swordsmanship is a never-ending path. Be sure not to give up.” “Thank… you… Sir” –said Krameas laying on the ground almost unable to speak- “And the one hiding in the bushes, come out at once.” With a nervous attitude, Jamey stepped out of the bushes, scared of the strong voice and portrait of the commander. Even though he has known Tachros for almost 2 years now, he could not withstand the strong presence the commander had. But who could withstand the aura of the person that gained the reputation of the Evil Commander among the soldiers? Even for Krameas and the other soldiers, this was a difficult task to achieve. “It is… me… Sir. Crio sent me… with a letter for you…” “Give it to me now.” “Y-yes..” “I could not hear you.” “SIR… YES SIR” The scared boy handed the letter to Tachros who read its content in silence as Krameas and the child were patiently waiting for him to share with them the message.

Migration
09
According to the most recent research, in 2020 there were approximately 281 million international migrants in the world, a figure equivalent to 3.6% of the world population. Globally, the estimated number of international migrants has increased over the past five decades. A traditional migratory pattern is the emigration of Latin American citizens, mainly Brazilians, Colombians, Peruvians, and Venezuelans, to the United States. While it is true that Costa Rica is not the country of final destination for migrants, it is considered a bridge through which hundreds of migrants cross each day with the intention of reaching the United States.

INTERVIEW
4. What difficulties have you faced until now because of migration?Mainly the jungle. It also affected our health; we got too sick. Apart from the journey I had to go through, I have another 10-year-old boy, apart from my daughter and well apart from that the physical journey that is detestable to anyone. We got a high fever, diarrhea and I 10think that was the worst, our health, and the journey through the jungle. From here everything has gone well. 5.Where do you find strength in difficult times? I don't know whether to keep it because we are more inclined to return. There is no chance of anything, then. If that were open, the border, we would have continued, but I think we have already given up. We plan to return more than anything for the children to continue enduring hunger and the diseases that we may have. More than anything for the children. 6.Where are you going and why? The United States is the main goal, I think that of many not only Venezuelans
1. What was the main reason for leaving your country? What can I tell you? The reasons are not a secret to anyone in the world, right? The situation that Venezuela is experiencing, the social crisis, hunger, lack of medicine, lack of so many things, opportunities for children, for one who still has some youth left. So, I think the reasons are many, right? And as I repeat, they are not a secret to anyone in the world, mainly, that was the reason. 2.What was the hardest part of leaving your country? Obviously, the family, at least my mother, her mother, and my brothers. Friends, neighbors too. People who are good people get along with everyone in their neighborhood, right? 3.Have people from other countries helped you during the trip? It has helped, it has not helped as such, because when we leave the jungle, well, we also come from the jungle. We arrived at a refuge that is a World Organization, and from there we had to pay our ticket, it was not free. We couldn't move forward because of the money, just like that, knowing that there are no opportunities, there is no life.
13
8. What were you doing in Venezuela?I worked 12 years in the bakery. I was dedicated to the bakery, and I am dedicated to the subject of construction, everything that is the subject of construction, I dedicate myself to that, I have those two, let's not say professions, but a way of earning a money. .Did you go out with your family? Yes, and different families came out with us around 600 people, when we entered the jungle, because some go faster or slower. We went faster and, in the end, we stayed with a group of about 9 and there were more children, there were 5 children and four adults, we finished the entire journey through the jungle for 7 days with them. 9. What do you want to accomplish? Well look. Mainly us wanted our own house. Because in Venezuela, even though in Venezuela there was a good government, the people had their own houses, quickly, but now having a house in Venezuela became impossible like many other countries, we wanted our own house and a better future for these children that in Venezuela there is not.
4. What difficulties have you faced until now because of migration?Mainly the jungle. It also affected our health; we got too sick. Apart from the journey I had to go through, I have another 10-y

Journey of Venezuelans to the USA“Always looking for a better future”
They do not know what they will face in The United States or if they will survive the journey, however they still take the risk. Most immigrants do not speak English, which is very important in the United States. This makes it difficult for them to find a job, and many people take advantage of their condition to exploit them for work. Many countries have been affected by the quantity of migrants that are entering their territory, especially the public services as transport and the coexistence with the citizens. This has generated disagreement in different nations. Despite this, there are benefits of receiving immigrants; for example, they contribute it with extra money to the economy of each country. One example of a good economic growth was reflected in a research in Brazil where they found positive numbers in the economy of that country after the arrival of Venezuelans there territory. (International Labor Organization, 2021, p. 16). 18
The economic crisis affecting Latin American countries is one of the main reasons why Latinos immigrate to the USA. In recent years, Venezuela has positioned itself as the third country with the highest number of migrants to the USA. Around 5% of the population of Venezuela is outside Venezuela and not because they want it. It is because of the social discontent over the Maduro government, which forces Venezuelans to leave their country. Furthermore, the economic instability, the cost of the basic basket, violence, crime, and lack of medical care are other reasons. It is not an easy decision for anyone to leave their country, but it is courageous to make this trip. Even when this means facing long walks under terrible weather conditions, they must also face the famous coyotes (people who charge a lot of money in exchange for help). Most agree to pay; otherwise, they probably would be victims of theft, abuse, or murder, for that reason they pay even when this means that they do not have enough money for food or for a place to sleep. 18
15
The journey that they have faced is not easy. The situation became worse for the immigrants since the USA closed their frontiers and the people who already left the country now are in need of a way back home. One more time these families have to go through the forest and the multiple criminals that are waiting out there to take advantage of their needs to steal their last possessions. The investigation carried out, both from reliable internet sources and the testimony of a Venezuelan family, shows us the serious situation and the difficult living conditions in Venezuela as well as the harsh journey hundreds of families have to face due to the need for an urgent change in the economic, political, and social levels in their country. These immigrants are doing what they can to have a better future even if the journey puts their very lives in danger, they fight not only for them but for their families and children. People can be at least empathetic and not judge them and if there is a small possibility of helping them; they will appreciate it.18

Showing Job stereotypes
1. What is your profession? My profession is a sports journalist. 2.What was your motivation to study sports journalism? Since I was a little girl, I remember that I have been passionate about sports in general but specifically soccer; I think it was my motivation to study sports journalism. 3.Has it been difficult to work in a profession that society has labeled as only for men? Yes, it has been very difficult, not only because of the label that it is a job made for men, but I have even come across people who tell me “Well, if you know about soccer, tell me what position this or that player plays,” they do it to check if I really know about soccer, and it is hard for them to believe that a woman likes or is interested in soccer, they think that we (women) do it just for fashion, so that is difficult, but not only that being in this job position is a bit complicated because many times I do not say that all the time, but many times people are not given the same respect to us, they are not given the same opportunities to women journalists as to men, and there is a very marked line18
Veronica Yuliana Alpizar Castellón was born on September 06th, 1997, in Ciudad Neily, Costa Rica. She is living in Escazú, Costa Rica. She works as a sports journalist at FUTV. Also, she started working in Multimedios; she worked in La Liga before. 18
17
6.Do you consider yourself an example for other women in the profession, explain? I do not believe it. I am not an example, but people have told me a lot that they see me as a determined woman, and I feel that this has helped me a lot in this career, so if I can help more women to be inspired and determined in what they like, well I'm going to be here, I'm going to be supporting them, so they can follow their dreams. 7.What is the best experience you have ever had regarding sport journaling? It is difficult to think in one specific because many of them have taught me something. I think that every stories funny, rare, or the one that we cannot imagine are unique. However, the significant one that I remember. is when once I met a child and a few months later he died. Well, in general, every story is amazing and each of them can teach us something. So, I did. I have learnt many things from them. By Pamela Alpizar, Johel Rodriguez, and Tiffany Díaz 18
4. What has been the biggest obstacle you have faced in your personal and professional life?I do not see it as an obstacle anymore, nor did I see it as an obstacle at that time, but what made me feel disappointed and slow down a bit, was the little support I received when I said I wanted to study journalism because they (my family) told me, no, you are not going to live or earn money studying that major; they used to say “the market is very closed” “that is for men” just because it was sports journalism. 5.Would you recommend other women to study sports journalism? Why? Sure, I would highly recommend women to study sports journalism, if it is what they want, and if it is what they are passionate about: also, that they can really show that, as women, we are also capable of being able to be in those positions as men do. 18

SBreaking Job Stereotypes By: Pamela Alpizar, Johel Rodriguez, and Tiffay Díaz “Some things just cannot wait; Men must stand up now for women’s equality.” -Rick Goings
People since young ages have heard that some job occupations are for a specific gender, male or female, but the reality is different. Everybody can work at whatever occupation they want to be in as a professional worker. What matters the most are those abilities that someone can have to develop that job, rather than a gender assigned to that job. Moreover, soft skills are considered when someone asks for a vacancy, some of those skills are leadership, problem-solving, teamwork and many others. When someone gets a job, they think about if they have the same capability as others to have the job. Sometimes people’s minds play with them and make them believe that they are not good enough to deserve that job. Today, what matters the most is that the person who is working at a certain company has the ability to fulfill and attend to what someone asked them to do.
Even though that person is a man or a woman, the most important part is that person has knowledge and capacity to develop the job. Workers at some point of their life can ask themselves, “Can I be successful in my work role?” Sometimes people who are working in jobs in society are attacked and pointed out with stereotypes, they have an internal war in their mind because they can create a bad perception of them and sometimes, they believe that they are not good workers to do it. Men and women suffer discrimination at their workplace because of stereotypes. For example, some women when working in a building can be harassed and discriminated against. On the other hand, men when working as miscellaneous or cooking can be feminized. Furthermore, leadership is usually considered as a skill or quality of a worker. However, making decisions at work and commanding is considered masculine. According to Thebaud and Doering (2017) “boys take charge, they’re often praised for being a “leader.” But when little girls do, they’re more likely to be scolded for being too “bossy”.” (para 1)
18
Besides that, job stereotypes include a gap in terms of salary. Some jobs are less well paid; therefore, women and men should receive equal pay for the same work done. We consider that the labor stereotype starts when a person chooses what to study. Because in order to have a job in the future, you must first study something. For example, mechanic, engineer, nurse, and education. However, what matters is what you decide to study because you will have the knowledge and capability. So, when deciding to study a career that you are not expecting, it will help you to break stereotypes. Also, it will benefit your happiness because you will be doing what you really like. Finally, job stereotypes are a problem that has been part of workers’ daily life for years, and they are still present today. However, we believe that the most important thing in a person is his or her skills. We also believe that apart from the skills or knowledge that a person has, he or she should develop other soft skills, such as being kind, respectful, and teamwork, for example. Employers should focus on that before the worker's gender.
