INTERROGATIVE: Am/ Is/ Are + SUBJ + VPing ? Am I writing? Are you listening? Is she playing?
POSITIVE SHORT ANSWERS: Yes, SUBJECT + am/is/are. Yes, I am Yes, you are Yes, she is
NEGATIVE SHORT ANSWERS: No, SUBJECT + 'm not/ aren't/ isn't. No, I'm not. No, you aren't. No, she isn't.
Rules to add -ing
1. General rule: we add -ing to the base form of the V: read - reading2. When the VP ends in -e, we delete the -e and add -ing: ride - rid- riding3. When the VP ends in -ie, we change the -ie into -y and add -ing: die - dy - dying 4. When the VP has 1 syllable and ends in C + V + C, we double the final C and add -ing. (except with w x y): run - runn- running5. When the VP ends in V + C, it has more than one syllable, and the accent goes in the last one, we double the final C and add -ing. (except with w x y): refer - referr - referring
Uses of Present Continuous
1. To talk about what is happening right now :You are listening to me. 2. To talk about inmediate future when we are very sure it's going to happen:I'm playing a football tournment this weekend.
3. With "always" to express a complaint. Kate is always talking about herserlf.
Time Expressions
1. Tom is watching a popular TV series now/right now/ at the moment.... 2. We are meeting at Tina's club tonight/ next Friday/ tomorrow/ this evening....
