WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT REPRODUCTION?
All living things need to reproduce in order to survive. There are different types of reproduction.
- Oviparous:
- Viviparous:
- Ovoviviparous:
- Reproduction is the process of creating new offspring.
- Human beings are viviparous.
- Men and women have different reproductive system
What is the human life cycle?
Human life is a cycle. We are born, we grow, and when we are adults, we can reproduce.
How does human reproduction work?
Human reproduction is the process of making new human beings. Remember that, men and women have different reproductive systems.

What is fertilisation?
Each part of the male and female reproductive system has an important job in making new offspring. Reproduction occurs when an ovary releases an ovum. The ovum joins with the sperm. This process is called fertilisation. When the ovum is fertilised it is called an egg.
How does a new baby grow?
The baby develops inside the mother's uterus. This process is called gestation. The first organ to form is the heart. The last organs to form are the lungs because the baby does not breathe oxygen until it is born.

The main body systems form so the new baby can survive in the outside world.
First the placenta forms. This transports oxygen and nutrients from the mother to the baby.
The baby is about 50 centimetres long and is ready to be born.
The baby is tiny. It develops inside the mother's uterus.
What is a Multiple Birth ?
Non-identical twins are formed when two sperm fertilise two ovums. Two eggs grow into two babies. The babies can be two boys, two girls or a boy and a girl. They can have similar characteristics, or they can look very different.
Identical twins are two babies who are born at the same time. During fertilisation one sperm fertilises the ovum. The egg then divides into two. The two parts grow into two different babies. They are the same sex and they have very similar characteristics.
