Who made the coloNy
John Mason created the colony of New Hampshire he got that land by the council granting a tract of extending inland for sixty miles along the coast of New England between the Merrimack and Kennebec rivers.John had a partner called Gorge they both sailed to the English colonies George got Maine and John got New Hampshire. John called New Hampshire that because of his home county in England.Unfortionatly John died in 1635.The council of New England ended in 1635 the same year that Mason was named vice admiral of New England.Because of an apparently conflicting claim to the same land by Edward and William Hilton whose grant had been recognized by the Council in New England in 1631.Masons land was in dispute after his death his dead in 1635.In fact, his heirs brought about 160 suits against those who held land based on the Hilton grant.Known as the Masonian Controversy, itwas not settled until 1787,just before New Hampshire became a state.
