What are similes and metaphors?
Similes and metaphors are both a type of figurative language that compare TWO different things.
- Similes use "like" or "as" when comparing.
- Metaphors use "is" when comparing.
Examples of a simile
- They are as good as gold.
- Her hair was as soft as the clouds.
- You lie like a rug.
- That is as light as a feather.
Examples of a metaphor
- She is an early bird.
- Life is a highway.
- This classroom is a rollercoaster.
- Their eyes were butterflies.
