Psychological treatments
While having a skin condition such as vitiligo might not be physically harming, it can take a great toll on someone emotionally and mentally. Studies have shown that vitiligo is often associated with depression, anxiety, social phobias, stress, and more. With disorders like these, it's usually the best option to seek further treatment outside the physical ones, such as therapy or certain medications.

“Vitiligo is a blessing in disguise. It makes you a better person when you accept your own imperfections and those of others.”

* Further research and/or a doctors/dermatologists opinion is recommended before starting any of these treatments.
While most vitiligo treatments are for cosmetic purposes, there can be severe cases where the affected can lose vision or hearing, as well as gain a sensitivity to sunlight. In those cases, further treatments might have to be taken.
For laser treatment, UVB light is painlessly passed over affected spots, and it is done in sessions. Phototherapy is the use of ultraviolet light, also done in sessions. Both help replenish lost melanin as well as preventing new patches of forming.
Laser/phototherapy treatments*
Topical meds are medications that can be applied directly to the affected areas. These meds can promote repigmentation. Topicals can include: corticosteroids, calcipotriene, and many others. Topicals can also be paired with laser or phototherapy to be more effective.
Topical medication*
There are a number of other treatments that can improve pigmentation loss, including more severe procedures such as skin graft surgery, or something less severe, such as wearing sunscreen or taking vitamin C.
Although there is no cure, there are many treatments that can be taken to diminish the appearance of the colorless spots.
Nonsegmental
Segmental
Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune disorder that has an effect on the melanin found in the body. The melanin giving skin, hair, and eyes their pigment, is destroyed, leaving white patches that are often shifting and changing. While it is not contagious, vitiligo mostly effects people with a family member that has been diagnosed with vitiligo, or somebody that might have a different autoimmune disorder, and it can be diagnosed at any age. There are also two different types of this condition: nonsegmental and segmental. Nonsegmental vitiligo is when the colorless patches are mostly symmetrical on the body, whereas segmental is not.
