Complete Sentence Expectations

USING CSIQ

CSIQ is an acronym for Complete Sentence Including Question.

You will be expected to write in complete sentences for EVERY assignment. But, before I can expect you to know what that means, we are going to go over exactly what a complete sentence is and what a proper response looks like when using CSIQ.

CSIQ is one of the easiest and fastest ways to make sure that you are writing in complete sentences. Just like its name says you would be writing in a complete sentence including the question. But, what does that actually mean?

Let’s practice this skill together!

If the question you have to respond to is: How was your summer vacation?

Here is a typical answer from a middle school student: Fine.

A CSIQ response needs you to repeat a part of the question in your response. Example: My summer vacation was fine While this is a complete sentence, it is missing the details that make it a CSIQ sentence..

CSIQ Example:

My summer vacation was fine. I only wish it could have been longer because I didn’t get to do all the fun things that I would have liked to.

***Notice that the added details round out the sentence by providing the information that we need to have a complete response.***
