connectors

Connectors in English are the tools that the language has to link ideas. Thanks to them, complex, rhythmic sentences can be formed that allow exploring concepts, narratives or descriptions that require a more advanced level of language proficiency.

connectors

There is a great diversity of connectors thanks to the fact that there are many ways to relate them, that is, sentences can be joined to complement each other, contradict each other, raise a cause or a conclusion

Step 2: nouns and verbs

how to use them in a sentence?

After a connector we can find a noun or a gerund.

Step 3: Congruence

Step 1: position

It is vitally important to use appropriate connectors for the type of text we write. If we send a WhatsApp message to a friend, we can use informal connectors, while if we write a research text we must use formal connectors.

Grammatical connectors can be at the beginning of the sentence, at the end, or between the two ideas they join. The decision about where the connector occupies in the sentence is entirely up to the writer.

its importance

Their importance lies in the fact that they give variety and complexity to the oral or written expression of those who use them. Therefore, they are especially important in academic, work or formal settings in general, without forgetting that they can also be used in informal settings such as a conversation between friends.

concessive connectors, conclusive connectors.

English connectors are divided into 19 types.

conditional connectors, continuative connectors.

Some of them are:

Adversative connectors, Adversative connectors.

copulative connectors, disjunctive connectors.

causal connectors, Comparative connectors.

functional connectors, sequential connectors

FOR EXAMPLE:

  • She plays the piano as well as the violin, guitar and drums
  • He is sick because yesterday he was playing in the rain
  • Even if you train everyday, you can’t go to the next Olympics
  • I have to look after my little brother, so I can’t go with you
