Gender Stereotypes
Stereotyping is expecting someone to look, sound or behave in a certain way based on one piece of information about them. It's a bit like trying to guess someone's whole identity based on just one part. Sometimes we are led to believe that certain clothes, toys, hobbies, jobs, colours or even emotions 'belong' to a particular gender. This is called gender stereotyping and it can make people feel that they should dress, act or behave in a particular way just because of their gender. For example, some people may not want to wear a particular piece of clothing because they think it doesn't match their gender. This can make life feel very restricted and full of 'gender rules'.
