The Story So Far

Numberella, Ronnie Resist, The Thief and Miss A Go are in Meravilium on a mission to find the legendary Elixir of Sanakhte. The Elixir is thought to make anyone who drinks it immortal. Because of this, many adventurers have tried to discover it - but all have failed. Numberella, Ronnie, The Thief and Miss A Go have successfully negotiated a talking tiger, a wild waterfall, and a slippery scheming snake - and now they have discovered the lost pyramid where the Elixir is believed to be hidden.* Having solved a series of hieroglyphic codes, they have gained access to a chamber within the pyramid itself... and they will need your help if they are to survive the trials which lie ahead...

Each year, in association with Deuce Music, Numberella releases a charity album in aid of an educational charity. The more times the album gets played, the more money goes to kids' education. This is only made possible by people like you PLaying the album on spotify, on repeat. (You can turn the volume down.) Every spin makes a tiny amount of money - but put it all together and it can pay for a child's education! Can you help?

Mission 1 - The Man Trap

As their eyes adjust to the gloom, Numberella, Ronnie, The Thief and Miss A Go walk carefully forward into what appears to be a burial chamber. In the roof above their heads, tiny chinks of light blink and flicker. “They look like stars,” says Numberella, in wonder. “I guess whoever built the pyramid must have created passageways for the light to pass. There’s just enough light to…” But Numberella did not finish her sentence. There was a sudden clatter, a curse, and a howl of pain. “What was that?!” shout The Thief and Miss A Go together. “I’m not sure,” says Ronnie, sounding scared and breathing quickly. “I just walked into something, I couldn’t see it, it was just lying on the floor. I can’t move! Something has pinned my leg! It’s hurting really badly! Shine a holoscreen at me, so we can see what it is!” The Thief whips out her holoscreen and points it at Ronnie.

Page 1/3

Mission 1 - The Man Trap

“Oh no,” gasps Numberella. Ronnie’s leg is caught in a large iron mantrap. It looks like it has been made for elephants, because the gaps between the arm sized metal teeth are so large that his leg has escaped being impaled. He wriggles desperately but cannot free himself. “Look,” whispers Numberella, and they all turn to where she is pointing. On the floor nearby there is another trap, with what look like a pile of rags strewn carelessly around it. Something is glinting white in the light of the holoscreen. “Bones!” whispers Numberella. “Er… HELLO!” shouts Ronnie. “Is anyone going to get me out of here? Why don’t you look at the mechanism on the man trap!!? See if you can free me!”

Page 2/3

Mission 1 - The Man Trap

“Hey, wait a second,” murmurs Numberella. "There’s some kind of box chained to the hinge. I wonder." Numberella slowly opens the box and inside they see a tatty blue notebook covered in spiders' webs. Numberella picks it up carefully. “Look,” says Miss A Go, feeling the man trap. “I can see some kind of... padlock on this. It looks like one of those twentieth century devices they used to use to keep things shut. I’ve seen them in the police museum. You have to turn the numbers round until you find the secret combination.” “What does it say in the book?” says Ronnie impatiently. “They look like clues,” says Numberella. "Maybe they are clues to the padlock! Ronnie maybe we can get you out of here! Yes! Look!"

Mission 2 - Venomous Gorgona

With a click, the padlock opens, and together they heave apart the giant jaws of the trap. Ronnie climbs unsteadily to his feet. Ahead of them in the gloom they see a stone door frame. There is no door on the hinges, and beyond it there is a darkness so complete that none of them want to go in. But then a warm, sweet scented gust of air blows through. “I’ll go first,” says Ronnie. He limps forward and takes a few steps into the dark tunnel. The light of his holoscreen seems to be swallowed up, as if the air is filled with fine particles of dust. The others gingerly follow him in. As they walk slowly down the tunnel, the darkness begins to give way to wisps of colourful light that dance and flicker. “Wow! So beautiful,” says The Thief. All of a sudden they begin to hear strains of music, soft and ethereal. The air begins to get warmer and sweeter.

Page 1/3

Mission 2 - Venomous Gorgona

“I’m beginning to feel drowsy,” says Numberella, and before the words are out of her mouth, the quartet find themselves in a warm room, full of low lights. They see four couches in the far corner. The music gets louder. As they wander towards the couches, none of them notice the eight massive eyes watching them from the balcony above. Miss A Go lies down heavily. “So comfortable,” she sighs. "It’s safe, it’s safe,” she says, and the second her head hits the pillow, she falls asleep. One by one the adventurers lie down, and begin to yawn. They do not see or feel the thousands of tiny spiders that begin to crawl over them, weaving tiny silken webs. Suddenly, the dreamy music stops, and the lights go out. “It’s a trap! It’s a trap!” screams Numberella. She struggles frantically to get off the bed, but the strands are too strong. From the balcony above, a massive spider with enormous hairy legs descends, her gigantic fangs clicking and clacking like knitting needles, her green eyes glowing hungrily.

Page 2/3

Mission 2 - Venomous Gorgona

“Welcome, foolish humans,” cries the spider in a rich, silky voice, "to the Place Of Preparation. I am Venomous Gorgona, a guardian of The Elixir. According to the laws of Sanakhte, I must ask you each a question. Answer correctly, and you will be allowed to continue your journey. But should you fail..." She shoots out her huge fangs within a hair’s breadth of Ronnie’s face... "..then I will liquidise your insides and suck them out before you can say Sanakhte.” “Ginger woman!” shouts Venomous Gorgona. “GINGER WOMAN!” But Miss A Go is still asleep. Venomous Gorgona shoots out a jet of bright red liquid from one of her fangs which hits Miss A Go right in the face. “Aaaaaaaagh!” screams Miss Ago, waking abruptly. “Silence, miserable worm!" screams Gorgona. "You will answer the first question. If you fail to answer correctly, you will watch as I suck out the eyeballs of this pathetic boy.”

Mission 2 - Gorgona's Rage

"How dare you get your question right, you yellow bellied scum!" screams Venomous Gorgona, her hairy legs quivering with rage, her fangs twitching. "You have not heard the last of me! But fear not! Much worse lies in store for you, and you can be sure that you will never leave this pyramid alive! Yes, we will meet again, mewling humans,” says Gorgona, as thousands of tiny spiders with fluorescent green eyes eat away the silken bonds that bind them. "You will meet the same fate as the last humans who came through here, the miserable and ignominious Sir Weldon Fear and his men. He died as painfully as you all will. Ahahahahahahaha!”

Mission 3 - the Wall

Pulling strands of spider silk from their clothes and hair, the adventurers walk shakily onward, down another dark corridor. “This is a nightmare!” says Miss A Go, whose hair had matted into hard stick-like chunks ever since she had been spat upon by Venomous Gorgona. One of her eyes was also half glued together, giving her a strange and slightly terrifying appearance. “On the bright side,” says Numberella, “we now know for certain that we are on the right track. We know that Sir Weldon got passed Venomous Gorgona!” “Who cares about Sir Weldon!” hisses The Thief. “The only people stupider than that crackpot is us four. I mean what were we thinking?! Even if we do by some miracle survive this pyramid, and find The Elixir, who wants to live forever anyway? Dumbest idea ever if you ask me.”

Page 1/3

Mission 3 - The Wall

“I dunno,” says Ronnie. “Think how much money you could make if you had, say, 500 hundred years to make it. You’d end up being the richest person in the world. And then you could.. well.. have a Rolls Royce Dark Wraith in like, 10 different colours, or…” But Ronnie’s flight of fancy was cut off by a series of massive ‘thunks’ in the corridor behind them, and then a cry of pain from Miss A Go, who was in the lead. “Arg!” shouts Miss A Go, rubbing her nose, which had started to bleed. "I just walked into a wall. The corridor ends here!” “I can’t go back!” cries Numberella desperately. "The corridor has closed behind us!” “By the rings of Saturn,” mutters Ronnie, “Whatever next?” Barely are the words out of his mouth, than the floor, walls and ceiling all begin to move.

Page 2/3

Mission 3 - The Wall

A shaft of light penetrates the blackness, and the group find themselves staring at a grey stone wall punctured with deep holes. The Thief gives a cry and nearly falls as the stone slab she is standing on begins to move. She leaps backwards, and lands on Miss A Go’s foot. Miss A Go curses. A box has appeared from under the floor, long and wide. “It looks like a coffin,” murmurs Numberella. She opens it, and inside are smooth, thin stone rods. “What the comet?” breathes Ronnie. “Look!” says Numberella. “Some of the holes in the wall are marked. Maybe we are meant to put the rods into the holes.” “Yes!” shouts The Thief. “Great thinking Numberella!”

Page 3/3

MISSION 3 - the Wall

With the tunnel behind them blocked, Numberella, Ronnie the thief and Miss A go are faced with a grey stone wall punctured with round holes. Miss A Go has her hair set on fire.

Mission 3 - The Wall

“So let me see,” says Numberella. "On the first slab, five holes are circled in red. So… I put in five rods. Voila.” Nothing happens, and then, without warning, a jet of flame shoots out of one of the holes and sets Miss A Go’s hair on fire. “Aaaahh,” screams Miss A Go, and The Thief rushes to cover her with a blanket. “Look dummy,” says Ronnie. "The stone rods have coloured markings too. You put a blue rod into a red hole. Try a red rod.” Numberella slides five red rods into the holes, and there is a ‘clunk’ sound. “Ok!” says Numberella. "Now next, there are twelve green holes marked, so I put in twelve green rods and…” Clunk.

Page 1/1

“Yes!” says Numberella. "And now there are seventeen blue markings…” Clunk. "But now… there are no more markings! How are we meant to know what to put in next?” “There’s only one colour left,” says The Thief, who has left a smouldering Miss A Go to fix herself up a bit. "White." “ok fine but how many should I use?” says Numberella.

Mission 3 - The Wall

The wall opens in front of them like a pair of curtains. Ahead of them, there is another wall. From the roof above them, unseen, a box falls, and crashes with a tremendous noise right next to Miss A Go, who screams. “Look,” cries Numberella – this time the stone rods are shaped like squares.” She picks up a square rod and walks to the first flagstone. There are no markings at all, just row after row of square shaped holes. She inserts a rod. Clunk. “I got it right!” shouts Numberella. Next, she picks up two square rods, and inserts them into the next flagstone. A large net falls out of the ceiling and lands on Miss A Go, who flails around, shouting.

Page 1/1

“Next time it could be a boulder,” says Ronnie. "Careful Numbers. Let me try,” he says. He picks up 4 square shaped rods and inserts them. Clunk! "I’ve got an idea," says Numberella, and picks up nine rods and inserts them. Clunk! “Well done,” says The Thief. "But what comes next?"

Mission 3 - The Wall

With the squares safely inserted, the wall once again slides apart, and the group walk forward, illuminated as ever by the shafts of light beaming down from high up in the pyramid. In front of them there is another wall, identical to the previous two, but this time, the spaces in the wall have five sides of equal length. Ronnie walks forward and picks up five blocks. “I think I see a pattern here,” he says. “Five sides, five blocks.” “Wait!” says Numberella, “It might…” but it is too late. Ronnie places the five blocks into the slots, and suddenly, a vast cloud of mosquitos swarms out and starts attacking the group.

Page 1/1

They bite viciously, and before long all of the adventurers are bleeding and hardly able to see through the dense cloud of insects. Desperately, Numberella picks up one block, and places it into a space in the wall. Clunk! “Ok!” shouts Numberella. "But what should come next?” shouts the Thief.

Mission 3 - The Wall

With the final block inserted, the adventurers stand, swollen and bleeding, in front of another wall. The mosquitos have vanished as quickly as they appeared. Suddenly, the floor falls from beneath them, and they find themselves plunging into an endless blackness. The fall seems to go on, and on, and on.“By the moons of Jupiter!” shouts Ronnie. “What’s happening?” “We must be in a stasis field,” says Miss A Go. “They put us in one once during DETER training. It feels like you’re falling forever, but actually, you’re just floating. It’s weird.” All of a sudden, rows of lights appear in front of them, floating in the air, like lightbulbs, but clustered in groups. In the first cluster, there are 2 yellow lights. In the second cluster, there are 3 green lights. In the third cluster, there are 5 pink lights. In the fourth cluster, there are 7 purple lights. In the fifth cluster, no lights are illuminated.

Page 1/2

Numberella reaches out, and finds that when she reaches, she also moves. “Look!” she murmurs, reaching out and floating forwards towards the fifth, dull cluster. She touches one of them, and it instantly goes a fine, bright white. “Ok,” she says, “but how many do I need to touch? A deep voice fills the space. "You have 5 seconds to choose your answer! 5..4..3..2..1.."

Mission 4 - Sir Weldon Fear

With a bright flash, the stasis field autovaporates and the group are left lying on their backs feeling dazed. “What just happened?” asks Ronnie. “It’s called autovaporation,” says Miss Ago. “Basically when the stasis field closes you get dumped on your back and have the wind knocked out of you. That’s why stasis fields aren’t very popular. They’ve even started using them as a punishment at schools, I hear.” “What!?” say Numberella and Ronnie together. “Yup – no more detentions – stasis fields,” says Miss Ago with a grim smile. “I’d like to see someone try,” says Ronnie. “And anyway, where are we? What’s this… thing, in the floor?” “It looks like… a plug hole,” says Numberella. “A plug hole?” says The Thief. “That must mean we’re in…”

Page 1/3

Mission 4 - Sir Weldon Fear

“A BATH, yes.” A deep, cold, villainous English voice fills the space. “Welcome to the Bath Of Sir Weldon Fear.” “Sir… Sir Weldon?” whispers Numberella. “Hahahaha! Now you see, Numberella, or whatever your name is. I am Sir Weldon Fear. But I am also Hamish McBane, Ladislaw Korybut, Mbagume Swatolulu, Pandit Mirawama, Hirosuki Nakajima, Alfred Wong, and all the other imbeciles who believed the tale of The Elixir. I am all their souls unified in one body, and I will live forever, but only because each year I feed on the souls of others, and the life span they lose becomes the life span I gain. HAHAHAHAHAAAA! You fools! You will be boiled in this bath and then dissolved in the venom of Venomous Gorgona to become my night time drink, and I will drink you up and live another three hundred years or more! I love young ones more than anything else! For you have the greatest lifespan left! HAHAHAHA.

Page 2/3

Mission 4 - Sir Weldon Fear

“But..” stammered Numberella. “Don’t we get a chance? A chance to survive?” “No one survives my questions! Stupid girl! Your ant-like intellects are nothing compared to mine. But…” the voice pauses… “Sanakhte, the king in the sky, requires all condemned travellers to be given one last chance, so.. I must ask you..” “Four questions,” mutter Ronnie, The Thief, and Miss A Go together. From above them, a great noise, like the crash of an enormous wave on craggy rocks is heard. And then a huge flood of water knocks the adventurers off their feet, sweeping them towards the far end of the bath where they are smashed into the side. “My first question,” booms the voice, “is far harder to answer when you are afraid! HAHAHAH. Ignite the furnaces!!” the voice thunders, and beneath them, beneath the relentless gurgle of the falling water they hear the savage thunder of volcanic burning, and almost straight away, feel the heat beneath their feet.

Epilogue

With an enormous gurgling sound, the plug of the bath is lifted out by an unseen force and shoots away into the blackness above. In the distance, the adventurers see an enormous cascade of water rushing towards them, and before they can do anything, it hits them, sweeping them off their feet. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!" they scream, as they are swept up the side of the bath, around the edges, careering in giddy circles around the bends at the end, before hurtling down into the centre where the water is disappearing into the enormous plug hole. There is no resisting the rush of white water, and one by one they drop into space. Falling like rag dolls, at first they see nothing at all - they are too winded, bruised and shocked. Then slowly coming into focus, then rushing madly towards them is the roof of the forest canopy and the brown smudge of the great river. "Heeeeeelp!" cries Numberella. "We're going to hit the trees!" SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH!

Page 1/2

Epilogue

They land in the enormous river, and swim to shore. "So... no Elixir..." pants Numberella, when they are all safely lying on the bank , "in the Lost World Of Sanakhte." "No bad thing!" says The Thief. "I didn't want to live forever anyway." "For all atoms in the universe," says Ronnie, "I never want to set eyes on Meravilium again." "I just want to get back to my bed," says Miss A Go. NUMBERELLA WILL ADVENTURE AGAIN!
