There are a great variety of drafting materials and tools used in mechanical drawing. The drafting materials and tools , and instruments discussed in this presentation include most of the basic ones but sufficient enough for your initial understanding about mechanical drawing.

drafting PAPERS

Various type of drawing papers are available for use but hard and soft surface drawing papers are highly recommended to be the best. This type of does not groove easily when pressure is applied to the pencil . Oslo paper is commonly used but bond paper is also recommended.

masking tape

This is used for fastening the drawing paper on the drawing table or drawing board because it does not damage the board and it will not damage the paper if it is removed by pulling it off.

pencil sharpener

Pencils should be sharpened whenever they show signs of dullness. Various types and designs are available in the store for use.

drawing pencil

This is one of the most important tools in drawing. It comes in various grades. The grade of pencil to be used depends on the quality of paper to be used.

erasing shield

This tool is made up of metal with irregular holes. It is a useful tool to protect the rest of the drawing when clearing up smudges, unnecessary pencil lines and other erasures.

Drawing tools and instruments are used for drawing and designing purposes. Their quality is very essential if you want to have good result. Cheaper drawing tools and instruments do not only provide poor quality results but also do not last long. You have to observe proper handling and care if you want them. Drawing instruments are the tools used by professional and student drafters to render the precision graphics needed to manufacture a product or structure.

T-SQUARE

A square used by draftsmen to draw parallel lines drafting instrument - an instrument used by a draftsman in making drawings square - a hand tool consisting of two straight arms at right angles; used to construct or test right angles;

TRIANGLE

A triangle is a drafting tool used to draw accurate parallel lines, vertical lines, and other angled lines. By combining the two, you can draw lines at 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90° angles.

triangular scales

A triangular scale is a ruler that has a 3-lobed cross-section with 6 different types of scales on the edges (2 on each face) used for measuring and preparing scale drawings such as blueprints and maps. It is also called an architect’s scale.

COMPASS

A compass, also known as a pair of compasses, is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as tools to measure distances, in particular on maps.

DIVIDER

Divider, It is utilized when moving measurements, dividing lines, and arcs into the given number of equal parts. ✔ It can quickly move accurate measurements by adjusting the divider points.

DRAFTER

Drafters are used for preparing technical drawings and plans. ✔ Drafter is utilized in making technical drawings to design everything from microchips to skyscrapers.

Drafting materials and tools may be used for measurement and layout of drawings, or to improve the consistency and speed of creation of standard drawing elements. Tools such as pens and pencils mark the drawing medium. Drawing Instruments It is a useful tool to protect the rest of the drawing when clearing up smudges, unnecessary pencil lines and other erasures. Other tools such as straight edges, assist the operator in drawing straight lines. It's very important for today's draftsmen to use the highest quality drafting supplies when working on a new project. Using the correct drafting supplies will improve the overall success of your drafting project and save you a lot of valuable time.
