Sequence adverbs are used to describe the order in which two or more actions happen, and help us understand the time relationship between sentences and ideas.

SEqUENCE ADVERBS

"First" is number one. When we're giving instructions or we're giving steps, this is how we would start for an action that happens before any others.

FIRST

First, blow up one of the balloons and tie it.

(Primero)

SEqUENCE ADVERBS

Action that will happen after the one just mentioned.

Next, put 60 milliliters (¼ cup) of water in the other balloon and tie that too.

next

(Siguiente)

SEqUENCE ADVERBS

Used for an action that happens after another action if it’s not immediate

THEN

Then, light the candle.

(Después)

SEqUENCE ADVERBS

Used to indicate an action that you have to do immediately after some other.

After that, bring the first balloon closer to the candle.

AFTER THAT

(Después de eso)

SEqUENCE ADVERBS

Used for the action that happens at the end, after any others, or after a long time.

Finally, bring the second balloon closer to the candle.
