START
THE CONSTITUTION OF CADIZ
In 1810, Cadiz was the only place in Spain not controlled by the French. Delegates met there to create a constitution which was signed on March 1812.This constitution was the most liberal constitution of its time and the first one in Spain. It established: - Freedom of the press. - Voting rights for all men over 25. - National sovereignty. - Freedom of expression. - Constitutional Monarchy.

what happened next?
Once the war had finished, the King came back to Spain and it meant the end of French rule.
In 1814, Ferdinand VII made the constitution illegal.
People in the upper class wanted an absolutist monarch again to keep their privileges.
Liberals were not happy with the changes made by Ferdinand and the back of the absolutism
