WHAT IS BULLYING?

Bullying is saying something or hurting someone intentionally. A bully is someone who purposely tries to hurt others by making them feel uncomfortable.

Types of bullying

1. Cyber bullying 2. Verbal bullying 3. Physical bullying 4. Social bullying

DEFINITIONS OF TYPES OF BULLYING

Physical bullying includes hitting, kicking, tripping, pinching and pushing or damaging property.

Cyber bullying is the act of bullying someone through electronic means (as by posting mean or threatening messages about the person online) cyber bullying.

Verbal abuse is when people calling you names · Making things up to get you into trouble · Hitting, pinching, biting, pushing and shoving · Taking things away from you

Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting someone’s reputation or relationships.

CAUSES OF BULLYING

Bullying is a serious form of violence against children. It not only affects the children who are being bullied, but also those who bully as well as bystanders. Bullying can be physical, psychological, social, or cyber-based It can lead to academic underachievement and suspension from school among other consequences. Children who are bullied often feel unsafe in their schools and fear getting to school or go there for fear of being victimized by bullies again and again. This phenomenon is called “school phobia” or “school refusal.” Many children with this condition give up on attending school altogether which negatively impacts them academically and socially. We know that bullying can lead to various problems such as: anxiety, depression, stress, anger and low self-esteem. It can also have a negative effect on school performance. Bullying behaviors are associated with violence and criminal behavior later in life.

WAYS TO STOP BULYING

As a parent you need to make sure that you prevent bullying teach your kids about bullying and what damage it can do to someone As a parent, you can help to prevent bullying by teaching your children how to: be caring of others get along deal with angry feelings be assertive without being aggressive in standing up for themselves

Report bullying and victimization incidents to the school. Inform teachers, principals, and other school helpers. These individuals have the power to intervene and help stop bullying. Sometimes bullies stop as soon as a teacher finds out because they're afraid they'll get in trouble.
