Parts of a Plant:
just like your body systems, all of a plant's body systems need to work together to maintain homeostasis. What are some ways that your body maintains homeostasis? what happens when you get too cold or too hot?

Parts of a Plant:
PLANTS HAVE ADAPTATIONS TO HELP THEM SURVIVE. Plants can't just go get water if they are thirsty, or put on a coat if they are cold.

Parts of a Plant:
for example, deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall to protect them from frost. Plants lose turgor pressure, otherwise know as wilting, to conserve water.

Parts of a Plant:
turgor pressure is when the vacuole of a plant cell loses water. when the vacuoles shrink in size it makes the cells shrink in size. As they shrink it makes the plant wilt!

STEAM CHALLENGE:
draw a model of a tree, or other type of plant, that lives on another world! does your plant protect itself? what adaptations does it use when it gets too cold or too hot? how do its body systems work together?

Parts of a Plant:
plants have cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems just like we do. in fact, they even have hormones! A hormone called auxin is used by plants to regulate cell growth.

Parts of a Plant:
as plants find things in the environment, called a stimulus, they respond by using auxin to grow towards or away from them. this growth movement is called a tropism.
