INTERACTION: RECEIVING INFORMATION
INTERACTION is a vital function of living things.
It enables us to take information from the world around us and to respond appropriately. It includes the senses organs, the nervous system and the locomotor system.
INTERACTION: RECEIVING INFORMATION
The nervous system interprets this information and decides how to respond I greet him.
Our senses receive information from our surroundings. This is called a stimulus. I see my friend
The locomotor system allows us to carry out those responses I raise my hand to greet
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE FIVE SENSES Senses organs receive information from the environment and send it through the nerves to the brain.
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF SIGHT Our sight tells us the colour, shape and size of objects. Eyes are the sense organs that give us sight.

INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF TOUCH Skin is the sense organ that allow us to touch. The skin covers the whole body and protects the organs inside.
Layers of skin
When you touch something, sensory nerves on your skin transmit information to the brain about how it feels. They also detect pressure and temperature.
INTERACTION: 5 SENSES
THE SENSE OF TASTE Tongue is the sense organ that allow us to taste.
In order to taste the flavour of food, the tongue needs to mix food with saliva. Your tongue is covered in taste buds which detected different flavours. They send information about the taste to the brain.
INTERACTION: PROCESSING INFORMATION
THE NERVOUS SYSTEM The nervous system controls everything you do. It is made up of the brain, the spinal cord and the nerves.
The brain is situated inside the skull. It receives information sent by the sense organs and gives orders about how the body should respond.
Nerves are tiny tubes that run throughout the body. They carry information from the sense organs to the brain and from the brain to the rest of the organs.
locomotor system
THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM
The brain sends messages to the locomotor system, which reacts with movement. The locomotor system is made up of the skeleton, joints and muscles.
THE SKELETON The skeleton is made up of all of the bones in your body. It is divided into three parts. The skull, the torso, and the limbs.
THE MUSCLES There are over 600 muscles in your body. The muscles contract and relax when they respond to messages from the brain.
