ENG. INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGMENT ENG. JUAN FRANCISCO MORALES MORALES VICTORIA DE DURANGO 31OCT 2022

The role of transportation in a supply chain.

It is responsible for moving finished products, raw materials and supplies, between companies and customers that are at different points. It also adds value to products through delivery.

-One of the key points in the service standards -One of the highest logistical costsIt constitutes a representative proportion of product prices. -Transportation is said to take up about 49% of ttotal logistics costs.

The role of infrastructure and policies in transportation.

Most transportation infrastructure throughout the world is owned and managed as a public good. It is important that infrastructure be managed in such a way that monies are available for maintenance and investment in further capacity as needed.Transportation policy sets direction for the amount of national resources that go into improving transportation infrastructure. Transportation policy also aims to prevent abuse of monopoly power; promote fair competition; and balance environmental, energy, and social concerns in transportation.

Identify the relative strengths and weaknesses of various transportation network design options.

The design of a transportation network affects the performance of a supply chain by establishing the infrastructure within which operational transportation decisions regarding scheduling and routing are made. A well-designed ransportation network allows a supply chain to achieve the desired degree of responsiveness at a low cost.

TRANSPORTATION COST AND CUSTOMER RESPONSIVENESS

TRANSPORTATION AND INVENTORY COST

Identify trade-offs that shippers need to consider when designing a transportation network.

• Choice of transportation mode • Inventory aggregation

The transportation cost a supply chain incurs is closely linked to the degree of responsiveness the supply chain arms to provide. -TEMPORAL AGREGATION
