Past with verb to be (Was/were)
We can use the past simple of the verb to be to talk about situations and states in the past. I was at my parent's house yesterday. She was with her cousin last Sunday. We were tired yesterday.
How to use it
Affirmative
We use was for I, he, she and it. Use were for you, we and they I was hungry this morning. You were in the garden yesterday. It was cloudy yesterday. They were at the shopping center last weekend..
Negative
We use not. We can contract not and the verb, especially when we're speaking. I was not late for my English class this morning. She was not at school yesterday. We were not tired last weekend.
Interrogative
We change the order of was or were and the person. Were you hungry this afternoon? Yes, I was. Was she at the office last Sunday? No, she wasn't.
