Operating Propresenter

+ Projection Key

What do you do?

Operating Propresenter is relatively simple. One can do this with very little training, and by presing only a few buttons. This section gives you tips and guidelines on how and when to progress through the slides.

Operating Propresenter

Projection Key

The Producer is in charge of adding the key to the stream. This adds the lyrics to the bottom of the Program feed, giving lyrics to livestream viewers. Let the Producer know you have the key ready, and a head up to take it out when it is no longer being used.

M1: Projection

Operating Propresenter

ProPresenter Controls

Slides can be progressed by clicking them with the mouse, by pressing the spacebar, or using the Left and Right arrow keys to move both forwards and backwards.

Home

M1: Projection

Operating Propresenter

Transition Timing

Slides should be changed a few words before the whole thing is read through. This allows the readers to process the upcoming words so that they are able to sing along. Brains process information faster and have already seen the last words of a slide before they are sung, so it is okay to move on.

M2: Sound Boards

In-House Audio

+ Location

FOH Audio

Front-of-House (FOH) Audio is what is played in the room of the service or event. This sound board operates freely of any other sound for livestreams. It solely determines what is being played in the room.

M2: Sound Boards

In-House Audio

Location

In-House sound is located in the back of the room on a rolling cart. This board should sit underneath the confidence monitor in the gym. If it is not present, it is located in the back storage closet of the Fellowship Hall.

Home

M2: Sound Boards

In-House Audio

Purpose

FOH audio provides sound to the room of the venue. It is distributed through the main speakers only.Adjusting the Gain levels on this board also adjusts the audio in a band member’s IEM (In-Ear Monitor). It would be good to inform them of any drastic changes you have made.

Manned Cameras

+ Purpose

Camera Operators

One of the most common volunteer positions is the Camera operator. These jobs can range from simple to complex, depending on how well you can handle the camera and it's controls. Here are some tips to better understand how the camera operates.

+ Set-Up

+ Controls

Home

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Purpose and Benefits

Manned cameras are most useful for movement shots and provide a better resolution with their lenses. These cameras require an operator that is capable of adjusting Zoom, Focus, and the angle of the camera These work best to provide movement shots, track speakers as they move across stage, and quickly snap between different shots of the event.

Home

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Set-Up

Manned Cameras should be set up on their dedicated stands. The power cord should be plugged in with an extension cable from the storage closet. Each Camera is placed next to a pillar with a fiber optic hanging from it. These should be plugged in to the optic converter.

Home

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Controls

Each camera has three main functions a user should be aware of: Zoom, Focus, and Tension. Each of these allow the operator to maneuver their camera for their personal preference.

Home

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Zoom

Zoom controls the width of the camera shot. This is located on the right handle, with a slot for the thumb to rest in. Pushing this divot back and forth changes the width of the shot. The speed of change can also be slowed using the small knob above the thumb rest.

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Focus

Focus controls the field of depth on a camera shot. This is located on the left handle, with a rotating cylinder to adjust. Rotating this back and forth changes the field of depth. The more red lines that appear on the viewfinder at the top of the camera, the more in-focus the subject is.

M3: Cameras

Manned Cameras

Tension

Tension controls the stiffness of the camera mount. There are two cylindrical adjustors, one for the vertical axis, and one for the horizontal axis. Tightening or loosening these adjusts the drag of the camera, allowing for more stability, or more fluidness depending on the operators needs.

Networked Cameras

A pan–tilt–zoom camera is a camera that is capable of remote directional and zoom control. They are commonly referred to as robos, an abbreviation of robotic camera.

M3: Cameras

PTZ Cameras

Purpose and Benefits

PTZ Cameras allow us to run multiple cameras with less people to operate them. These bonuses are equalized in that they have a lower quality, and a slower rate of motion. However, the camera operator on a typical Sunday morning should be equipped and ready to handle up to five cameras in a service.

Home

M3: Cameras

PTZ Cameras

Controls

PTZ Cameras are controlled through a series of buttons on the controller. They can be called in two different ways, moved, and focused. The controller is also equipped with auto iris and auto focus features to assist the operator.

Home

M3: Cameras

PTZ Cameras

Presets

The PTZ Cameras have already been set to a list of preset shots. Presets allow the operator to quickly call a previously saved setting of position, iris, and focus, to quickly jump between subjects.

Creative Shots

All types of cameras should be able to pull their own shots. A good camera operator knows what to look for and can find something in the moment. Here are some tips for different types of shots to help give you ideas.

Subject Placement

In photography and other visual arts, people must pay attention to the rule of thirds. The head should be near the bottom of the upper guideline. This allows the subject to take up about two-thirds of the screen

M3: Cameras

Operating Cameras

1. TightTight shots are usually placed from the chest up. These are a bust shot, that help emphasize personal points and emotion.2. WaistWaist shots are usually positioned from the beltline and above. These shots help to include various instruments or items that the speaker may be holding.3. Head to toeThese shots help convey the setting around the speaker. If they move, these can be useful for tracking, and give context to the situation.

Operating Cameras

1. PanThese move at a set width across the stage horizontally. Usually these are done wide over the whole stage, but can be done individually over a subject.2. FloatFloats are the same as a pan, however these move vertically from either the top of bottom towards the stage.3. ZoomZooms have a set position and pull out, or push in towards a subject.4. RackRacks are a trick performed at the end, where the focus handle is slowly pushed out of focus, giving a blurry appearance

Motion Shots

Motion shots help bring feeling to the production. Different types of motion can fill space, and emphasize certain effects of a song. They also add an element of dynamic action for visual interest.

Directing a show

The director position is in charge of deciding what gets put through the livestream's program feed. It is their job to line up camera shots, instruct operators, and make sure the team is on the same page with what is coming up, and what is happening in the moment. Here are some things that the Director should be aware of for running a service.

Stream Deck Controls

Live / Preview Buttons

The live display is the same as the program feed. This is whatever is being transmitted in the moment to the livestreams. This is always represented in camera and film by the color red. Preview are the inputs that are next to be switched. When doing a transition, it is the new shot replacing whatever is live. It is always represented by the color green.

Home

M4: Producer

Stream Deck Controls

Transition Effects

There are several types of transitions that can be selected. However the most common for the services is a dissolve, that lowers the opacity of one shot while raising the opactiy of the preview shot. This provides a smooth transition between two shots. This can also be cut between immediately with the Cut button, or manually transitioned with the T-bar.

M4: Producer

Stream Deck Controls

Macro Keys

Macros control what output is being sent to different screens. The director becomes directly concerned with this during the transition between worship and sermon. The program feed should be displayed, and then switched back to ProPresenter for worship. These can easily be toggled by pressing the blue buttons labeled respectively as PGRM and ProPre.
