Background and Brief History

Hurricane Flora

Hurricane Flora

Hurricanes are tropical storms that form in the Atlantic Ocean with wind speeds of 119km/h, Its eyewall has the strongest winds and rain, and the rain bands SPIN out to give the storm its sizewhich can be CATEGORIZED into five. Categories.major STORMS are known from cataorgies three to five. A category five hurricane often accompanied by the damaging winds, rains, and storm surges.

Hurricane Flora was an Atlantic hurricane that began as a tropical depression in the Intertropical Convergence Zone on September 26, 1963, about 1215 km southwest of the Cape Verde island of Fogo. Initially, this depression was poorly organized as it moved west-northwest across the Atlantic. On 29 September, this system developed into Tropical Storm Flora while located about 560 km north of Guyana, French Guiana. From that point, the storm quickly intensified, becoming a hurricane the next day. On 30 September, the storm made landfall on the island of Tobago as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 193 km/h.
