Purpose of this project

Purpose

• See which method is best to grow an avocado tree from a avocado seed

Question

• What method is the most effective to grow a avocado tree.

Hypothesis

By testing out various methods we may be able to determine which method has a most percent chance of actually growing an avocado tree. Some methods take a long time while others take the shortest amount of time.

The control variables in this experiment is the amount of water and the number of days.

The independent variable in this experiment is the method used to grow avocados.

The dependent variable in this experiment is the growth of the avocado seeds.

Most websites say that by poking toothpicks through the avocado and putting it over water is the best way for it to grow. Though there is a 50/50 chance for it to actually grow and it takes weeks for it to actually start growing a stem. Avocados take anywhere from five to 13 years before the tree is mature enough to grow avocados. Avocados have royal roots, and they were first used as tributes from the townsfolk to the local royalty in Mesoamerica 7,000 years ago.

Procedures

First Procedure for First Method

• First wash the avocado seed and peel the skin off of it'
• Wrap around a damp paper towel and place it inside the ziplock bag
• Place it in the pantry for a week or two and wait for it to sprout.

The first method was the most effective one compared to the other 2 methods.

Overall the papertowel method was the most effective out of the rest of the methods which answers my question. My project helps people conserve avocado seeds instead of throwing them like millions of people around the world do. So with this experiment it will be considered as a benefit to the words by growing more trees.
