How is Halloween celebrated?

They built large bonfires and wore costumes to keep away bad spirits and appease their gods. These traditions gradually changed over time and mixed with other traditions, such as Christian feasts of the dead from the Middle Ages.

It started as a Celtic tradition in ancient Britain and Ireland which celebrated the turn from summer to winter.The Celts believed that the barrier between the worlds of the living and dead was blurred on this night, and that ghosts could return to earth.

Fun fact: before Halloween got to America (where pumpkins are from), people used to make jack-o-lanterns from other vegetables such as turnips
