Maya beliefs
The Maya believe everyone is born with a spirit companion. Ancient Maya called this your ‘way’ (pronounced ‘why’) and Maya today call it your ‘nahaul’. There is a symbol to represent each one. They can be animals, natural things like lightning or objects that are important to the Maya.

‘Way’ or ‘nahaul’
There are 20 ‘Wayob’ symbols and they also represent the 20 days on the Mayan calendar.Your ‘way’ is based on when you are born and is said to guide you through life. Each symbol has certain characteristics that describe your personality traits and explain what job you would be good at.
