INTRODUCE

01

Thailand is a country that has a combination of modern and traditional. We can easily see that through the way Thailand people dress, and our traditional costume besides the trending fashion is Chut Thai

02

Origin & History

Thai traditional costume is a form of expressing the unique identity and culture of the land of the Golden Temple. Since its inception, the national costume of this country has gone through 6 stages of change. Previously, they were used every day as normal clothes. But nowadays, you can only see women wearing traditional Thai costumes on important occasions or parties.

03. Constructive

The traditional costumes of Thai women have 8 groups: Thai Chakkri, Thai Boromphiman, Thai Siwalai, Thai Chakkraphat, Thai Chitlada, Thai Ruean Ton, Thai Amarin, and Thai Dusit. In which, it has 3 most popular types used until now are Thai Chakkri, Thai Borompiman, and Thai Siwalai.

Thai Chakkri

The Chakri style consists of a long wrap dress called Phasin with a woven scarf draped over the shoulders. Thai Chakkri is a formal and elegant outfit for Thai women on important occasions.

Thai Borompiman

Thai women often wear Borompiman in dinner parties. This outfit consists of a long-sleeve shirt with buttons either front or back of the neck. The ankle-dotted skirt is made from fabric and decorated with eye-catching embroideries.

Thai Siwalai

Thai Siwalai is quite similar to Thai Borophiman except for a shawl over his shoulders. Both types give a luxurious look to Thai women in official events or royal ceremonies.

Traditional Thai costumes for men

The costume is a special test scarf, which is a piece of cloth, measuring 70cm, measuring 1m60 in length, assembled by square pieces of different colors interwoven beautifully spectacular. This piece of fabric is very convenient, it can be rolled up like a loincloth for bathing, or as a pair of shorts when living at home, fishing, or farming.

Raj pattern

Raj pattern refers to a Thai men's outfit consisting of a white Nehru-style jacket with five buttons, a kraben chong, knee-length socks, and shoes. It was worn mainly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by government officials and the Bangkok elite, and today is used in selected cases as a national dress.

Phakhaoma

Phakhaoma is a type of traditional Thai men's shorts. They can wear it right when they are working or preparing to take a bath because of its convenience and ease of movement.

After World War II, the government encouraged a shift to purely Western dress. Now phasin is seen as the dress of the poor and the rural people. People only wear it in the countryside or at processions during festivals.

Modern costume

4. Application in life

The second is that Thai Borompiman is somewhat more discreet and simple than Thai Chakkri. This is a rather flattering outfit and is often used in evening parties.

The first is Thai Chakkri, which creates elegance and luxury for Thai women, especially used on important occasions. Chakkri Thailand exalts the modern beauty of women.

For men, traditional costumes are not as rich and diverse as women's. But a special feature in the traditional costume of Thai men is that the break is both practical and highly aesthetic. Men can use it when bathing, living, fishing...

The third is Thai Siwalai, this is also a dress that brings elegance and nobility to women, often worn on important occasions.

Thanks for watching and listening!
