What is Plagiarism?
Plagiarism is presenting someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their consent, by incorporating it into your work without full acknowledgement. Plagiarism may be intentional or unintentional. Under the regulations for examinations, intentional plagiarism is a disciplinary offence.

Why avoiding Plagiarism?
- It is unethical.
- It limits your understanding of the author's arguments.
- Learning to summarize, paraphrase and quote teaches you to produce high quality writing.
- It demonstrates your commitment to intellectual honesty in scholarship.
What are the advantages of avoiding Plagiarism?
- To assess critically the work of others.
- You learn to develop your own ideas.
- It allows you to come to conclusions easily and faster.
Ways to incorporate information from references.
SUMMARIZING
- Include main points.
- Make it as brief as possible.
- Keep the order of the original.
- Topic sentence, supporting sentences and concluding sentence.
- Keep it obective!
PARAPHRASING
- Fully understand the original documents.
- Write key concepts and look for synonims later.
- Write your version and compare it to the original in order to make the necessary changes.
- Cite the source.
QUOTATING
- Use quotation marks. and index citation (<40 words), new line with indent (>40 words).
- Do not change the words of the author.
- Author's name, year (page number).
