Political background
- South Africa was split between pro-Afrikaner and pro-British
- South Africa was led by United Party
- The prime minster was J.BM Hertzog
- He was voted out and the next Prime Minster was Jan Smuts

Ossewabrandwag was a pro-German organisation that was fromed in Bloefontein on the 4th of February 1939 in Bloemfontein. It was led by Johannes van Rensburg

- Destroyed the German 65th Ifantary Division
- RAF top scoring ace
- Highest scoring ace in western Allies
- 41 confirmed kills
- Died in 1941
