General plans and intentions
arrangements
Expressing general plans and intentions
What are you going to do next weekend/in December?
I'm going to go to the beach next year, I don't know exactly when yet, but I'm going to go. I'm going to participate in a lot of activities for Halloween and dia de muertos. This is my favorite season of the year.
Expressing predictions
What is it going to happen?
Everytime we need to make a prediction based on something we can see, feel or sense we need to use this structure: Examples:
- Look at the sky!! it's going to rain in any minute!
- The red car is going to have an accident! it's going very fast!
- I'm going to fail my test, I didn't study. I can feel it!
Organized plans
What are you doing tonight/in December?
We use present continous + time expression to talk about an organized plan in the future: Tonight I'm taking a boat tour with my friends. (You already have the tickets) In December I'm travelling to Europe, I'm very excited. (You already have the reservations.)
arrangements or appointments.
What are you doing today?
We also use present continous + time expression to talk about something you have arranged with other person or people.
- Today I'm having dinner with my family.
- Tomorrow I'm seeing my dentist.
- This weekend I'm having my hair cut.
- I'm so nervous, tomorrow I'm sitting a job interview.

Decisions made at the moment of speaking.
What will you do?
When we make a decision the instant we are speaking we are going to need WILL. *You're at a cafeteria* I'll have a latte and a sandwich please! *You see an add on the internet* I'll buy it! *You remember an important thing* I'll call my friend!!
I promise to love you.... or I will love you...
Expressing promises.
Will, in the correct context, expresses promises. This is the reason on every love son you can listen to it. I'll love you forever! I'll never lie to you. I'll tell the truth!!
I'll call the police...!!
What will you do?
We can also use will to threat someone:
- If you don't stop I'll tell the teacher!
- If you don't give me the homework we won't be friends anymore.
- I won't help you if you are rude.
- Go away or I'll call the poice!!!
"...but if you don't... I will look for you, I will find you and I WILL KILL YOU!"
Tomorrow wil be...
When we talk about FACTS about the future, information that cannot be changed or is confirmed to be happening we use WILL. Next year will be 2025. This year Halloween will be on a Thursday. The semester will finish in May. The next Olympics will be in Paris this year
What do you think will happen...?
Expressing opinions
Will also normally is used with the following phrases:
- I hope the school will open soon again.
- I think classes will continue online.
- I expect you will study this material.
offer and asks for something
Will you do me a favour?
You can offer something...
- I'll help you if you like.
- I'll drive you if you need to.
- I'll lend you some money if you want.
- Or you can ask for something.
- Will you help me please?
- Will you lend me some money?
