•a small factory where workers are paid very little and work many hours in very bad conditions.
Sweatshops aren’t always a small factory, the building where people work can be big. Mostly sweatshops are being found in Asia or Africa but you can find them all over the world. Using , kids, teens or adults throughout the world is a really serious topic and I will tell you something about it. Workers of sweatshops are working in very poor conditions for pittance. EXPLOITATION OF PEOPLE IN SWEATSHOPS
About workers life:
•Sweatshop wages can be so low that they barely cover basic needs. Some people work for as little as 3 US cents per hour. They often work more than 100 hours per week in poor conditions without any safety protection.•In the worst forms of sweatshops people are forced to work up to 72 hours straight, without sleep or longer break. Those complaining are beaten and abused. Cases of physical, sexual, and verbal abuse are common and well documented.
•250 million children between 5 and 14 are forced to work in sweatshops in developing countries.
•Because women make up most of sweatshop workers, some employers force them to take birth control and routine pregnancy tests to avoid supporting maternity leave or providing appropriate health benefits.

Sweatshops in Europe
Of the formally registered workers in the apparelsector, between 79% and 92% are women. Most sweatshops workers in Europe are working in the shoe sector. A "MADE IN EU/EUROPE" myth. We prefer buying products with "Made in Europe" signs because we think that the workers' environment is better than “Made in China” ones. It's not always the truth that products manufactured in Europe are made in good surroundings by people who are getting paid well. Sweatshops are still in use even in our continent.
EXPLOITATION OD PEOPLE IN SWEATSHOPS
SWEATSHOPS IN SERBIA
- More than 100 000 workers- Main export destination: Italy (Armani, Burberry, Calzedonia, Dolce & Gabbana, Decathlon etc.) - Most workers earn about 23458 Serbian Dinar which is about 200 euro. This stands in contrast to the living wage of Serbia, which is well above 93832 Serbian Dinar (800 euros). WORKERS VOICE: “I told the supervisor, ‘I cannot breathe at this machine. It’s already over 30 degrees in the
factory and much hotter when we’re working at this machine.’ After I said that, the
supervisor took the machine’s exhaust pipe and directed it at mine and my colleague’s
faces and said, ‘Deal with it or else there are plenty of people waiting to replace you!’”
WHAT CAN WE DO?
•Try to look for items in second hands or buy something that is manufactured in your own country.•Research about shops where you are planning to purchase something. •Do not buy something that you don't need. •You can always join an organisation. (ex. Labour Behind the Label, Clean Clothes Campaign)
