Our Solar System

Planets in the Solar System

The components of the Solar System!

The Solar System is made out of eight planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth (where we live), Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. These planets orbit the Sun, a giant star which suplies light and warmth to them.

Dwarf Planets

The components of the Solar System!

Dwarf planets are just like planets: they orbit the Sun and some have moons. However, some don't have the required size, the power of clearing space around them... That last one, for example, is the explanation of why Pluto was stopped from being considered a true planet in 2006.

Planets' Moons in the Solar System

The components of the Solar System!

Mercury: No moons.Venus: No moons.Earth: One moon.Mars: Two moons.Jupiter: 79 moons.Saturn: 82 moons.Uranus: 27 moons.Neptune: 14 moons.

Pluto: Five moons.Eris: Three moons.Ceres: No moons.Makemake: One moon.Haumea: Two moons.

Smaller Bodies in the Solar System

The components of the Solar System!

Not only planets and their moons orbit the Sun -- smaller bodies also do! These are asteroids, meteoroids, and comets, appart from man-made satellites.

Beyond the Solar System

Beyond Us

Earth is a planet in our Solar System (planets orbiting a star). This is one of millions of solar systems in our galaxy, the Milky Way. In there we can also find black holes, constellations, and smaller bodies (like the ones previously mentioned).

The Milky Way

Our galaxy.

The Milky Way is one of millions of other galaxies, each containing solar systems, stars, and lots more. One of the famous others is the Andromeda Galaxy.

+ INFO

The Universe

The Milky Way and all other galaxies are stored in one place: the Universe. We haven't discovered yet how big it is, but some people say it's infinitely large.

Thank You!
