Think of brush tips like stamps that are repeated to create the illusion of a brush stroke.
Do the same thing with the image of the brush stroke. Go to Edit > Define Brush Set.

You can create a new folder in your brush panel and name it Basic Brush Tips.
These brush tips become the basis for all our inktober brushes.

Simply create a black circle and a black square, then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset

We only need 3 brush tips

First things first
The first steap in creating a brush is to create the brush tip.
Think of the tip like a stamp that is repeated many times in a row to create the illusion of a brush stroke.
For our Inktober brushes, we will need a simple round brush, a square brush, and a picture of a beautiful painting brush.
Brush Tips

No-Face (顔無し, Kaonashi, lit. "Faceless") is a character in the film, Spirited Away. He is shown to be capable of reacting to emotions and ingesting other individuals in order to gain their personality and physical traits.
So let's build some BRUSHES!
With the Sketch in place I came up with the following plan for my painting:

In the little book »Ch`i Po-shih Colored Brush Paintings« I found inspiration for the ink wash I want to simulate to bring the values into the painting.
1. Line drawing in Ink
2. Values like an Ink Wash
3. Flat Pattern (like a wood print)
4. Gold Highlights (No-Face likes Bling Bling)
I like the variations of patterns. They are applied without putting them in perspective or wrapping them around the shape
Inspiration
I decided to take my old ink paintings and turn them into a sketch for this Inktober Prompt.
I wanted to add Japanese Kimono Patterns like in old wood prints. I got inspired by an old »Shunga« I had laying around.
The Prompt for today is
FLAME
No-Face
A couple of years ago, I bought some chinese ink and roll of japanese calligraphy paper. I just played around while "Spirited Away" was playing in the background. I started painting a version of No-Face with my chinese brushes, ink, and water.
I was so happy with those loose, little sketches, that I kept them in my drawer all this time. Now it's time to pull them out and turn them into something cool!
They became my inspiration for today's Inktober Prompt, which is FLAME.
